Some songs come together in a day. Passenger Side is one of those songs that just never seemed to be right, until it was.
@callmekirstyn and I started working on this song in the middle of Covid. I loved the song and picked it as the second song we ever started together. And then it became one of those arrangements that I just couldn’t find.
Maybe because it started as an acoustic guitar, kicks and claps kind of thing in the writing demo, and that’s not where we wanted to head for the records we were making. Maybe because we had to do a bunch more songs to find the sound of the project. Either way, we just kind of gave up on it after a while, and honestly it was one of those songs that just made me feel like I kinda suck. I knew it could be great, but it wasn’t coming together.
Or so I thought.
Kirstyn hollered at me a couple months ago and said, “I want Passenger Side to be my next single!” What? I can’t even listen to that one…but I went ahead and pulled up the last of many versions that had been collecting dust on the hard drive for a whiiiiile. And holy shit. It was really good. I actually kinda loved it. I guess we just got too close to it and needed time away to hear it and feel it.
So we polished it up, had
@soundsbytompa put some magical strings on it, and, well, here it is and we’re all pretty proud of it. 4 years and 3 studios later it’s out.
