One of my most challenging and gratifying installations yet. (Does it need to be so hard to feel so satisfying?)
The goal was to transform this massive barn into a chic dining space, somehow embracing clean lines and a minimalist perspective while simultaneously being big, bold and effective.
Emily, Carlos and I came up with this textural hanging piece that we would suspend low enough to feel immersive, the rise and fall reminded me of a heartbeat when I sketched it out. A metal frame was necessary to hold it stable even though we really wanted the final look more fluid. Trial 1 felt too small so we had to figure out a good way to boost the diameter without adding weight. Flexible ducting to the rescue. Carlos assembled and hung the 150 linear foot length on Thursday, we already had every section covered with ducting, moss and chicken wire. Friday the team moved in with an insane amount of ming and the other greens so that Saturday could be used for the rest of the set up. I’ve included a photo of our client’s reaction because that jaw drop is what tells me we nailed it.
Calling out a few people who really helped make this design run smoothly during the install

@pickledoak for video calls, is this gonna scale well?
@laurajfoxy so much time put into the prep work, will our lungs recover?
