I spent the weekend at an artist's retreat with 4 lovely women and though we were a lil 🤏🏾 behind schedule, we made it happen. Let me check "host midnight collage workshop" off my list. ✅️

Last December, for my A Vibrant Thang artist talk, @_lifewith_ariana interviewed me as we sat on a blanket on our indoor "lawn." I took my shoes off. It was nice.
In 2ish weeks, she's asking me new questions. I don't know what they are. I don't ask. I just send her notes and let her surprise me. It's been working so far.

Took a break from work to hit up the opening of HELD by @aroundthewaydreams . It's a beautiful show, y'all. What a way to kick off #MothersDay weekend. Take yo momma...or yo friends. If you and your womb been...having an experience, this is a place to see art about that.
Last of Her Name came straight off the walls @fcac.empowerher and went directly to @ninabaldwingallery . I've shown her several times, but I actually felt a lil tender about it this time, because this time specifically, she's in a room where we share the same stories. A lot of grief. A lot of processing. Hope? It's all in there. Heaviness. Light.
Then I stepped nextdoor to @oldrabbitgallery to see Muddy an all pottery pop up hosted by my artist friend @telekenniese and @iamsheagreen . They really transformed the space. And it smelled so good! Lots of beautiful handmade pieces at very reasonable prices. GO. SEE.
Also also...earlier this year, I was talking to a friend about having one of my pieces in the gallery...at the window. So you could see it from the sidewalk. As I was walking from my car, there she was. I screamed...gently. Gon head and check that off my to do list. ✅️ Thanks @phyllis.iller , you ain't even know, but you made it happen.

Next up: HELD. Friday May 8th is opening night for the curatorial debut of @phyllis.iller via @aroundthewaydreams . It's an all woman show about experiences with our womb.
Periods. Fibroids. Cancer. Infertility. Birth stories. Menopause. All that is in the art.
I have only made one piece about my experience and you've seen it before...and you'll keep seeing it, because it is an important story to tell. Our stories are important. So we don't feel alone. And the women who share the experiences after us don't feel alone either.

Went to the artist only tea with @fcac.empowerher this morning @fultonedamcc . This team is DETERMINED to have us treated well. They had lil sammiches. Tea. Charcuterie. Fruits. Mimosas. Tiny treats. We got totes and t-shirts. How nice! And everybody was all cute in their tea outfits. ✨️ It's rare that artists are shown this much love. I'm grateful to be a part.
I wore the robe my friend @audculture made for me to the event. Figured it was appropriate for the group considering the women literary giants featured. It was a hit! So if you are one of the people who asked, please go over there and see what else she has to offer. It's always intentional. Always high quality. Always for the culture.
At this point, I'm wondering if I can expand/grow/reach the next level of anything without crying. I ask myself every time I endeavor to a new thing...I be like will she cry? And I be thinking no, but I always do. Lol. So, I guess I just gotta accept that it is part of my process (and not a sign of failure/weakness/being in over my head). Really surprised how early I got to it this time, but that may have something to do with this (final?) season of "America".
Current question: will she cry again?

3rd activity of the day: @journeyofablackgirl artist talk and closing reception @cbrooksgallery . I not only got to share about my piece All New Talent Must Be Fierce (slide 1), but I got to catch up with some artists and put some names to faces. And I learned so much about how things were created and the meanings. This really my fav format for group show talks. Plus, I got to hear @zipporahjoel talk about my fav piece in the show "Confidant". She had a really relatable story that might resonate with all our little selves.
I had a good time. Then I ran out of juice and had to tiptoe out before the end end. Lol. Picture me on the last slide...as captured by Husband. Before 11p.

What an incredible show of support for the 140+ exhibiting artists. There was so much beauty...on the walls and in the rooms. 😉 Did I take any pics with people (on my phone)? No. Not even my date. But here goes the art. Lol.

Meet me Emma Darnell Aviation Museum tomorrow March 13 at 6p for the opening reception for EmpowerHER 2026. This is an annual group show featuring over 100 women artists in 3 locations across Fulton County.
This is my first time participating and I am sure it's gon be good, y'all.
