We were delighted to be invited to be part of the Cultural Exchange Coalition in Brussels last week at the European Parliament, and attended online as couldn’t make it back in time for family plans otherwise!
It was super interesting hearing from
@ianmurraymp Baroness Bull Georg Haeusler
@dameevelynglennie and many others on how important it is to get a new agreement in place to make it easier for UK and EU artists to tour and collaborate.
With our
@ilo.festivals and
@lutnorth hats on we know first hand how tricky, baffling and expensive it can be just to send an artwork somewhere else for a festival and it really puts artists off even trying to come to the UK and vice versa, and this isn’t good for anyone.
It was heartening to hear
@ianmurraymp say ‘there’s a full commitment from our side in terms of the UK government to fulfil the commitment in the EU and UK Summit to fulfil the aspirations of the Cultural Compass and to make sure we can have all our artists - whether it be UK artists in Europe or European artists in the UK - as seamless as possible’
It was an optimistic, positive meeting and we hope it leads the path to real change.
Thank you
@olga.fitzroy for the invite and wonderful coordination, it was an honour to be in the room.
