The Uzoamaka Power

this is an @ohlanna.bu.zikora love and appreciation post. i wanted to go to the AMVCAs as a nominated filmmaker wearing a dress that meant something to both my nominated work and to my current project. ohlanna and i had a conversation and he immediately got it. first, in My Body, God’s Temple the film i was nominated for the opening scene shows a newlywed couple. the bride’s wedding dress is visible in the scene. and this couple are so in love and within that scene we see their love (as well as their struggle). secondly, my current project CALL OF MY LIFE the character i play, Soluchi wears her heart on her sleeve. she loves love. what other way to pay respect to the two projects that i poured my literal heart and soul and love into than to wear an outfit that embodies love, commitment loyalty and romance a dress one wears on the day one gets with the love of their life? he also made this inverted Alice band to show my individualism and a subtle nod to my new film C for Call of my Life. @ohlanna.bu.zikora outdid himself. he did it last year he did it again this year and i’m supremely happy and proud that such a powerhouse of a designer who is just as insane as i am and just as passionate about excellence as i am gets to effortlessly (with A LOT of work) custom make outfits for me with just conversation from my heart. he hears me, he says ‘i get it’ and he delivers on a world class level with @vcheuba styling both times. whenever you see me dressed in custom made ohlanna bu Zikora know that a lot of dollars went into it but i’m happy, because HE GETS IT. daalu, nwanne mmadu.❤️ dress, custom made for me by @ohlanna.bu.zikora styling: @vcheuba photography slide 1&2: @dan_torey makeup: @iamobakoremary

Full circle About a year ago, I’m at my first AMVCAs and the paths of our stars cross (once again) For a moment, time stands still; silence fills the air. Right before the chaos rushes back, you tell me you have me in mind for something you have written. No other words need be spoken. After all, it’s you. Fast forward - I’m on the set of My Body, God’s Temple - meeting @blessinguzzi for the first time, seeing @themuhammadatta again. Seeing the team you had put together and knowing that I would be in safe hands. We had two cities and three days to make it work; you were working overtime having written, directing, starring and everything else in between. And it wasn’t even the only thing you were working on! There’s something magic about people who won’t cut corners; people who will do what is right and necessary to make their work beautiful. Because you cared about the work we were doing, you made it easy to work. You created space in the din of all the madness for us to play. You’re a generous screen partner and a true collaborator. Nothing encapsulates that more than this scene. Thank you Uzo for seeing me and thinking of me because look at where we are!
