Fan favorite, @thestring.bean is your 4th place man at the 2026 @cocodona250 Presented by Altra.
Joe finished this year in a time of 61:35. Joeâs now joins a select group of three time Cocodona finishers. Strong, consistent and tough all the way through.

As a boy, I grew up halfway on a 200ft hill. Starting or ending a run sucked. These streets shaped how I grew up, and are arguably more important in my adult life as a trail runner. A great mantra: find hard things in your backyard and do them until they arenât hard anymore đ±
But times and foci change as @kkmcconaughy and I are new parents!! Jack is the ultimate cutie in our growing family. The Lake City Way is a short story as I prepare to run a 250 mile race with a 4 week old and contemplate what lies ahead.
If you donât have 3.5 minutes, save it for later.
Filmed by @stephenkersh@rabbitwolfcreative without any silly brand attachments. Art for the sake of art. Memories, places, and musings that only matter to us. And Stephen even has his own 1yo at home which is its own story! #dadssupportingdads
We hope you enjoy our little đ„ itâs exclusively on Instagram for the algorithm to bury, so congratulations if youâve gotten this far.

Crown King Aid Station, mile 36 of 252. 75 second pit stop after 6+ hours of no crew accessâ±ïž
Me and my crew pride ourselves with a quick aid station turnaround. Metaglasses were sweet @naakbars !

Couldnât do this crazy thing without you. Youâre the best partner I could dream of and Jack loves you forever and always.
After all that Cocodona craziness, it feels good to recognize the real hero.
Happy Motherâs Day â€ïžâ€ïž
Crew slaps đ > short naps đ€
Mile 210 of 252. Sleep at Cocodona was much better in 2026 than in 2024. Didnât have the performance I wanted, but at least my crew had my back, we had fun, and threw down!

Shout out to one of the most impressive endurance feats Iâve witnessed. Please congratulate overall winner and overall course record holder @rachel__entrekin at Cocodona 250, the most competitive multi-day race in North America đ„č
We ran the first 50-60 miles together and I knew she was ready to rock. She happily walked some of the ups with me so she could snack on some gummies. She went on to win in a commanding fashion and put on a world class performance. It brought the same emotions for me as seeing @jasminparis_fellrunner complete Barkley.
A few months ago Rachel came to Seattle and hit me up for a run. I offered for her to sleep at my momâs house in Lake City and we cranked out some fun runs. We were both getting ready to run Cocodona and cooking up what was possible. She delivered.
You freaking crushed it, Rachel.

This crew. This race. This body. This life.
Cocodona 250, 4th place.
Good multi-day racing requires you to pour out your heart and soul. Over the last 61 hours, I did that. My team did that. I didnât know what would happen racing Cocodona with a newborn at home (8 weeks!). Itâs bittersweet because there are hours left out on the table, but ultimately getting to the start line AND finish line are all I hoped for. Letâs GOO! đ±
It took a village to get here. Canât wait to go home and snuggle @kkmcconaughy and baby Jack!

This 4th place is different.
Joe McConaughy finishes Cocodona 250 in 4th place, with a time of 61:40, and itâs one of the most impressive builds of his career.
At home? An 8-week-old son.
In training? Sleepless nights on the couch and a completely different rhythm of life.
And still, he showed up here and delivered a massive performance from start to finish. Not everything was easy leading into it, but nothing about this 4th place was accidental.
Built different. Driven different.
Joe proved his Ultra dad strength.

@thestring.bean is fifth at the 2026 @cocodona250 đ±
The 2022 Cocodona champion ran a strong race, buoyed by his energetic crew and competition from a strong field including sixth place runner Courtney Dauwalter.
Some races feel like solo efforts... @cocodona250 isn't one of them.
For @thestring.bean , Cocodona is made possible by the people around him, a crew that never really stops moving.
Food ready when he arrives. Hands on his feet (or shoulders, or glutes) when it matters. Small fixes, quick laughs, and just the right mix of energy and calm to reset before he heads back out.
It's fast, it's messy, and it's constant care.
Because at this point in the race, strength isn't just what you have in you, it's also what your crew gives you when you need it the most

When night turns into day, and day turns back into night, racing becomes something else entirely.
At this point, itâs not just about strong legs or a solid stomach. Itâs about the people around you, your crew, reading the moments you canât, lifting you when it matters, and pushing just enough when you need it most.
@thestring.bean is moving well, is high spirits and leaning into the rhythm with his crew.

Joe âStringbeanâ McConaughy is looking forward to the flatter stretches of trail heading into Sedona.
He rounds out the Menâs podium leaving the Deadhorse Ranch Aid Station at mile 133.3 in 3rd place in the menâs race and 4th overall.
Can the 2022 Cocdona Champion close the gap on the leaders in the second half of the race?
