Honest question: Have you ever been on a non-surf trip?
At 40, I gave it a go (for the first time in my adult life) - and wow ! There is so much time when surf isnât on the menu.
More on my hiking trip to come - but love to know where you decided to go on your non-surf trip and why it was worth itâŚ
@solibailey sat down with Dave during an exploratory jaunt in the Pacific to talk about the highs and lows of his surfing life â from chasing the tour, to paddling out and not wanting to be there, his resurgence free surfing with Maps to Nowhere, and the life-threatening neck injury that nearly deleted surfing from his life.

Flower frolicking, rain or shine @luensflowers
Unlike conventional flower farming, Luen uses permaculture principles, and an appetite for wild beauty and soil regeneration to grow these gorgeous creatures.
Surrounded by their beaming faces, how can you not sense them as sentient?

Mid- Summer is the perfect time for wetsuit repairs.
Did you know that you can take your Patagonia wetsuit into any Patagonia store and they will have it repaired for you ( for FREE) - for the entire lifespan of your suit?
I live in a spring suit for most of the year here on the East Coast of Australia. Even the most well-made suits buckle under the pressure of daily wear at some point.
I try to make time in summer to hand off my repairs to the @patagoniaaus team, and two weeks later theyâre as good as new.
Thanks to local legend Bianca @b1ancas for helping me get it sorted.
Who is this? Please help us identify ( octopus or squid?!) or tag someone who might knowâŚ

2016 was the year before I became a mama - and it was brimming with ocean time, adventures and travel: Tahiti, Moorea, Sri Lanka, Hawaii - making films, gathering stories, making new friends.
Iâd gotten pregnant a few years earlier, but wasnât ready, so I swore I would go all in on the freedoms of a âprofessionalâ surfing life before parenthood. And Iâm so grateful that I did. It all came together in 2016.
One of the most memorable gatherings of that year was a trip I called âEclectic Ladylandâ - I invited some of my favourite surfers to camp on our land for a couple of weeks. We surfed every day, hiked, saw the coast from hot air balloon - and we each shared a creative skill with the group. Pretty much an excuse to crafternoon every day.
I love an excuse to get nostalgic - so green lighting this 2016 reboot for the year at hand.
