As many of you know, I was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that led to a cancer diagnosis in 2024. While it was a terrifying experience, considering the loss of my mother, aunt and grandfather to the same family "curse", it was also one of the most intimate and transformational. Through it all, the person who showed up for me most, and stayed at my side (in heart when in body wasn't possible), was my sister
@oyesaranda — all the while SHE was also facing the same BRCA1 diagnosis, cancer risks, screenings, childhood traumas and fears for our future.
I hate that in modern medicine, she and I have to live with this for the rest of our lives while making do with mitigation and never a cure, but I am so grateful and blessed beyond words that we have each other in this journey. Before my sister underwent her preventative surgeries, she made an incredible personal pilgrimage and set a world record in the process.
