When @ganavya sent me her arrangement of “Pasayadan,” a 700-year-old prayer in Old Marathi, I didn’t understand the words. But the sounds cut into me, reminding me that the most radical idea has always been to meet cruelty with compassion, not more cruelty. We all know this. It’s just easy to forget.

For years, @nithyaforthecity has been someone I have looked up to for her commitment towards making the world a better place. I met her in Chennai, when I was training in dance as a barely 12 year old; I am so grateful for how much they have helped me keep walking since. How many coffees I’ve drank at their counter while seeing their little ones grow and discover language, how many times I’ve fallen asleep in their guest bedroom after staying up for school, how many papers I finished upstairs.
It is my unbelievable honor to get work with her husband, Vali Anna, for this.
We are lucky to know great artists, luckier to work with them, luckiest to call them friends.
