One for our team and community. We just had #NationalBobaDay and now it’s #NationalMatchaDay. A lot has been said about how matcha is trending (again). Before we move on to ube and rewrite history, let’s remind everyone with receipts.
Since 2012, we’ve put matcha at the forefront of our menu, long before it was on every influencer page (we started Boba Guys before the term ‘influencer’ even came out). In addition to the Strawberry Matcha Latte, we also had at-home matcha kits, matcha collabs with our friends at Williams Sonoma and Laneige, and even promoted matcha and boba on a little magazine called
@voguemagazine . We didn’t invent matcha, strawberries, or boba, but we have to say it’s not a new thing.
We haven’t brought this up for years but since everyone wants to claim matcha, ube, or boba, we wanted to add our two cents. We are happy everyone is celebrating matcha and boba nowadays but let’s give credit to our partners who really helped give companies like us and use their platform to help promote matcha to what it is today. At the time, centering stories on matcha and boba was considered a risk, so thx
@penguinrandomhouse @williamssonoma @voguemagazine @laneige_us . We remember a day when we’d do demos and morning shows and we had to prep the producers on what matcha is. The fact that we can talk about matcha or boba so deeply today is a testament of how far we’ve come.
Also, we decided against a National Boba Day post but shouts to pioneers like Wonderful Foods, Saints Alp, Fantasia, Tea Era, and Factory Tea Bar who helped pave the way for these global boba shops to swarm our cities. Yep, we said it. ;)
