Quincy Jones. A renaissance man. We at HarbourView are proud to be custodians of this incredibly impactful legacy. At our Las’ Set: Quincy Jones Legacy Tribute, we celebrated a life well-lived alongside Jones’s family and committed ourselves to shepherding his legacy into a new era.
With musical direction from @adamblackstone , we commemorated our partnership with Jones’s estate and began our first steps into inspiring the next generation with Jones’s work, from Thriller to Fresh Prince. We are honored to be stewards of his vision.

Är rap farligt?
Frågan har följt hiphop-kulturen sedan genombrottet – särskilt under G-funkens era på USA:s västkust under 90-talet.
Musiken och artisterna som formade G-funk och West Coast-soundet skapade en av hiphopens mest ikoniska epoker. Med rötter i 70-talets funk och blaxploitationfilmer – där Parliament och Zapp utgjorde centrala ljudkällor – skapades ett ljudlandskap av tunga basgångar, psykedeliska synthar och lunkade grooves som samplades till G-funk-soundet. Artister som Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube och Warren G definierade stilen genom klassiska låtar som Nuthin’ but a “G” Thang, Gin and Juice och Regulate.
Men samtidigt som G-funken slog igenom växte också en oro. Texterna beskrev våld, kriminalitet och en verklighet som många uppfattade som provocerande – eller till och med farlig. Kritiken handlade inte bara om innehållet, utan om dess möjliga påverkan: vad händer när gatans berättelser når en masspublik?
G-funken var mer än ett sound. Den fungerade som en berättelse om vardagen på USA:s västkust – filtrerad genom konstnärliga uttryck, överdrifter och personliga erfarenheter. Att tolka den bokstavligt riskerar att missa dess funktion: som dokumentation, identitetsskapande och ibland också som motstånd.
Nedan har jag sammanställt en lista med de mest ikoniska plattorna som samplades och lade grunden till G-funk-soundet – skivor som inte bara definierade sin era, utan också visar varför frågan om rapens roll och påverkan är mer komplex än den först kan verka.
PS: respekt 🫡 till min barndomsvän @therealqd3 som var med och bidrog till g-funkens utveckling. Men framför allt hans far, vars musik samplades flitigt.
