MFT out now 🐈⬛🧶 Me and Mandy wrote this song after I read a news story about an AI suicide. The song is not about whether AI is bad. (It’s obviously bad, but that’s not the point of the song.) It’s a portrait of someone looking for a safe space to share her worst thoughts, and feeling that even therapy isn’t really safe, because the therapist might have to report those thoughts to the government. But the chatbot isn’t a person, so it’s not going to tell anyone anything. We related to that feeling of despair and fear, and ended up with this elegiac song about it.
Oh yeah and Mandy sings the 2nd verse lead on this one 🐈⬛🧶

So a couple weeks ago a casting agency reached out to us wanting to cast a “credible, tight-knit band” for an ad, but didn’t tell us what company the ad was for. They asked us to record an audition tape and send over some show videos. The pay promised to be really significant, so we figured, no harm in trying. Well, turned out they liked us … but then they revealed it was an ad for AT&T, which is one of ICE’s big contractors. So we said no.
Everyone draws the line in a different place, but this was over the line we’ve drawn for ourselves. I wanted to share that this happened, and add that if you’re a band (or just a person) and you’re offered a bunch of money for something that doesn’t seem right to you, you can say no, and it’ll be fine 😎

Some bands don’t like to tour. We get that, it makes sense, touring’s hard and it’s SO expensive. But we are not one of those bands. We love being out there with the Cheek Freaks. It reminds us (and maybe you) that even though this country is harsh and callous and sick and bitter, creating a better community together is possible, even if it’s for just a night in a lil rock club with a weird band 🐐 🐐 🐐
