@theknot recently shared a wedding budget breakdown and… people had thoughts. Fair.
So here’s TPIM’s take, shaped by a decade in the industry and what we actually see in real weddings.
This example is based on a $100K budget. You’ll notice we’ve intentionally left some things out, because real budgets aren’t one-size-fits-all. Maybe you choose a DJ over a band, or go digital instead of working with a stationer.
There are bigger variables too: is that $100K for 50 guests or 90? That alone shifts everything.
At this level, most couples are opting for partial planning or coordination, not full-service. And priorities matter. Maybe you want a curated playlist and skip a DJ entirely. Maybe florals aren’t your thing.
Your negotiables vs. non-negotiables will always shape these percentages.
Let’s keep it open, honest, and transparent, shall we.
Tell me your budget and guest count and I will add your budget breakdown in my stories 👇🏻

What gets me is the intentionality around couple’s choices.
When it is clearly centered around guest experience but also how it is reflecting them as individuals and as a couple.
Sometimes that means a weekend with 40 of your closest friends and family in nature, delicious food and ceremony in the rain and curating pieces of clothing to how each section of your wedding feels.
We definitely will never forget S&C and their glorious day.

when the entire aesthetic of a wedding is sultry romance & each frame feels warm to the touch 🕯️🥀
b & d had their intimate brunch ceremony tucked away in a private room at @gemma.nyc where they exchanged vows surrounded by their closest friend & family.
brittany chose a soft down style for the ceremony to compliment the romantic nature of her veil. i love how seamlessly everything tied together - from the lace detail of the veil, the corset silhouette with silk draping of her dress, to the cozy candlelit room - and my absolute favorite detail - the wax drippings melting down the candelabras.
after the ceremony, we removed brittany’s veil & transformed her style into to an effortless & undone, yet chic, midi updo to send her off for an evening of dancing & drinks at the georgia room 🥂

Your wedding is a performance… and I don’t mean that in a fake way.
I mean that there are moving parts.
There’s timing, flow, energy.
There are people arriving, interacting, experiencing what you’ve created.
You’re not just planning a day, you’re shaping how it feels to be in that room.
And when you start thinking about it that way,
even the smallest decisions become more intentional.
Even a “simple dinner” becomes something people feel.
And that’s what makes it uniquely yours.

Every time I work at @brooklyngrange it rains. Like clockwork. And every time, we adjust, pivot, figure it out. Sometimes we’re a little more wet than planned, and things get moved around a little more than we thought.
But I’ve also never been there and seen a couple disappointed.
The timeline might shift, the plan might change, but the energy never drops. People lean in, it gets a little more real, a little less curated and somehow better.
Don’t spend time worrying about the rain, or any of the things you can’t control. Perfection is two besties getting married in front of their people. Everything else has a way of aligning.

Common misconceptions when hiring a wedding planner: 1. “You won’t have to do any work.”
A planner takes a huge amount off your plate, but your input still matters. It’s your wedding, your taste, your decisions. The best results come from collaboration. 2. “Everything will get done immediately.”
Great planning is thoughtful, not rushed. Vendors have timelines, decisions take consideration, and some things simply can’t (and shouldn’t) happen overnight. 3. “Everything will be perfect.”
Perfection is marrying your BFF. The goal in planning and collaboration isn’t perfection it’s a meaningful experience. Small hiccups can happen, but a planner ensures you are taken care of. 4. “You’ll automatically get discounts.”
Planners don’t exist to “get deals,” they guide you to the right vendors and help you spend wisely. Sometimes that means value, not necessarily lower prices.
Happy Planning ❤️

The most authentic, true-to-self weddings are rooted in intention.
Intentional with priorities. With how your guests feel. With what they’re eating, drinking, experiencing. Intentional in every decision — how it feels, what it says, how it reflects you both.
It was important to M&J that every vendor felt like a friend… or at least had the potential to become one. Imagine that? Choosing to collaborate with creatives not just for their talent, but because you genuinely align as humans.
I think about M&J often. Not just because their wedding (and vendor team) was impeccable… but because they’re simply a good hang 😉
