Another KMF in the bag, except this year was quite exciting as “Body of Water” had three showings over the weekend! This is the first time I’ve been to the festival as anything other than an attendee and quite frankly was a bucket list moment.
I’m incredibly proud of
@lilybrown____ as this was her directorial debut and beyond thankful to have gotten to share this weekend with her.
Thanks to everyone who came to any of the viewings, it was very special seeing this on the big screen with some of my closest friends. And thanks to those who said hello at any point over the weekend!
Some highlights of the weekend
⛺️
@teambmc Women in adventure - Our first showing and q&a for our film. But it also was an introduction to
@julietklottrup who directed “Skate Like a Lass” an eye catching film about skateboarding that left me mesmerised.
🏊🏻♀️
@dryrobe Outdoor Swim Session hosted by
@ellachloeswims - Always a must. I enjoyed
@wildwithjayejae film “The Healing Sea” which had very similar themes of mental health and finding solace in swimming. I also loved
@catherinejoywhite film "Swim Sistas" which I had the pleasure of watching several times over the weekend! It was so nice hearing Catherine and the subjects talk about making the film.
🌊
@finisterre Ocean and Seas Session - their 2nd year running the session and a new yearly KMF must in my schedule!
@alice.rosaline.ward created a moving film about her relationship with the ocean and tied in themes of chronic illness which really spoke to my own experiences. I particularly loved her use of cyanotypes!
🧗🏼♀️
@immycycles and I went to see “Girl Climber” and oh my goodness we were both gasping at clutching each other throughout the film! If you’re into climbing I’d definitely check it out!
🤿 And finally
@mattkaymk film “The Black Godfather of Scuba” which detailed the extraordinary life and mission of Dr. Albert Jose “Doc” Jones, co-founder of the National Association of Black Scuba Divers. I was so glad to watch this twice because I loved everything about the storytelling.
Coming away very inspired as always, until next year!
