Tonight, @mistyonpointe will take her final bow with American Ballet Theatre at a farewell gala—but this isn’t goodbye for the legendary dancer. In July, I had the incredible privilege of sitting down with Misty to talk about her remarkable 25-year career with the company, her tireless work advocating for equity in ballet, and why artistry should not be confined to age or an institution. “What I’m trying to make clear, which I feel like hasn’t been clear, is that I’m not retiring,” she told me. “This is the end of ABT for me. But I want to continue performing in some capacity.” Today, she stars on @harpersbazaarus November digital cover, performing an original dance, and her profile will also appear in Bazaar’s November issue. This was the last big feature I wrote as an editor at Bazaar; I can’t imagine a better way to go out 🩰 Photography: @lorenzschmidl Styling: @alexdelifer Hair: @naivashaintl Makeup: @killahcamz Manicure: @yukotsuchihashi

Have I lived here long enough to use this song yet? Last weekend hiking Santa Paula Canyon, where we took glacial dips in our own private swimming hole. In December!! This place ❤️‍🔥 (Good photos by @tam___er )

After six incredible years at my dream job, today is my last day at @harpersbazaarus . The people behind this publication are pure magic, and I couldn’t be prouder of the work we’ve created together. As for what’s next: this little alien is leaving New York after 16 (!!) years and moving to LA with @mike.courtney.nyc at the end of the month! I’ll be working as a freelance writer for the foreseeable future—PR and industry friends, if you know anyone in need of copy, please send them my way. ❤️

Tonight, @gillianemurphy will take her final turn on the @abtofficial stage as Odette-Odile in Swan Lake, in her farewell performance with the company. She’s been dancing with ABT for 29 years; I distinctly remember watching videos of Gillian throughout my many years as a young dancer and marveling at her technical prowess and emotional vulnerability. Over the past month, I’ve had the privilege of spending time with her—over Zoom, in rehearsals, and as an audience member watching her perform Giselle—for a profile on her for @harpersbazaarus website. That story is live today, and I couldn’t be more grateful or excited to have gotten to speak with one of my longtime idols. I might cry watching her perform tonight in my favorite ballet. Thank you, Gillian, for all you’ve done—for ballet, for the countless kids you’ve inspired, and for being a model of grace and kindness. Swipe to see my first published article about dance (I wrote it for The Denver Post’s community blog when I was 15), which @miminatanyc —whose son I used to train with—so generously recently reshared 😂 Sunkissddancer31 4 Ever!

It’s been one week since @shizuokusa took us on the most magical trip to Kyoto, where we got to experience a chado matcha tea ceremony, guided temple meditation, and ikebana class, among many other special things. Holding on tightly to everything we learned; thank you for showing us the intention and inspiration behind @apothekaryco ! 🌸

Late to sharing, but for our May issue, pioneering labor activist Dolores Huerta and artist and organizer LaToya Ruby Frazier joined in conversation to discuss finding purpose, the nature of power, and why America is worth fighting for. The piece is pegged to LaToya’s beautiful exhibition at @themuseumofmodernart , “LaToya Ruby Frazier: Monuments of Solidarity,” on through September 7, which features, among many other works, an installation dedicated to Dolores and her family in honor of their immeasurable contributions to the labor movement and human rights as a whole.
