I don’t often post about work here but I am very proud of a recent collaboration at
@iscp_nyc 🌟
I had the honor of working with
@nadiamarkie to present her debut performance of “Bad Star” in which she takes on the role of a classic villain to play with ingrained social beliefs about bodily differences and evil. Nadia asked for help with finding an acting coach, a prompt that really spoke to me because I love and admire the craft of deeply committed performance (find me in the front row).
I reached out to my dear friend, actress and writer
@lochvess , and her acting coach
@thekenstudio and from there not only did we have amazing support for Nadia’s work, Ken, Vanessa, and I also developed a class for all ISCP residents on how to “play the human instrument.” The class was a captivating plunge through the looking glass into the world of deep acting craft. We learned how to emotionally connect with an audience as if we were all held in the space between coach and actor. I love being there when residents get excited about learning new tools they can use in their practice. It’s my thing ☺️.
Big thanks to
@niki_balazs_ for allowing us to host the workshop in her studio (perfect setting), to
@lalajames85 for sharing her talent and vulnerability as the demo performer, and to
@sebmadeitt (who just finished a blockbuster summer internship with us) for the photos.
Most of all, congratulations to you, Nadia, on this wonderful accomplishment. You called me curator and in the case I’ll take it!
