Just over 4 years ago, I applied and interviewed to work for Supplement Superstores. I was told that hiring me would be “shoving a square peg in a circular hole,” and that it just wasn’t a good fit.
•
I bet on myself because I knew exactly what I could accomplish and bring to the table, I just hadn’t shown that yet. So, 2 years ago, today, it was a breath of fresh air when
@jeff_wasserman told me he’d take that gamble with me.
•
In the interview and hiring process, I was told a lot of things by a lot of people.
“Customers who become employees typically don’t last long.”
“Customers who love us and are as die-hard about our culture as you are typically get burnt out fast, and don’t progress very fast.”
“You work a comfortable job with a good salary, paid time off, great benefits, it would be silly to leave that to work a retail job.”
•
I listened to all the critiques, warnings, and discouragement, and used it as fuel. I took it kind of personal - who are these people to doubt my ability to do this? Who are these people to tell me what I am and am not capable of? Who are these people to try and tell me what is and isn’t good for me?

These last 2 years have been the happiest, most difficult, uncertain, trying, and most memorable years of my entire life. I’ve grown more as a professional and (more importantly) as a man, than I could ever put into words. It’s all a reflection of my leadership.
From small instances like learning to write meal plans from
@bobz8 , working my first-ever expo event with
@s2_bmfitness , having deep theological and personal conversation with
@trevorstephenss2 , smoking a cigar and strategizing with
@bubs_the_creator__ and
@teeballt.lifestyle , or even sitting down with
@jeff_wasserman or
@freddyford_s2 and expressing excitement for what’s to come (or fear of the unknown), I’ve grown exponentially because of it. And for that, I’m thankful.
•
I’ll never regret taking that leap of faith and choosing to work here, and I’ll never be able to truly express my gratitude to all those who helped me get to the point I’m at now.
•
Now, let’s get back to work.
