3zwei1 ⏳ Theresa started to count down with a textile work titled „Trick“ and Amelie wrote a text about saying „Goodbye“. 🎈 After three years of continuous work at 1zwei3, we are ending our active, space-bound phase with a three-part concluding series. Usually, “one, two, three” marks the beginning of a process. 3zwei1 deliberately counts down in three acts, presenting a collaborative work by us — Theresa, Magdalena, and Amelie — in the company of friends we invited. 💥 We're thrilled to announce a new book 'DESIGNING QUESTIONS'' - authored by our Professor Anab Jain with teaching colleagues Nikolas Heep and Stefan Zinell @design_investigations is releasing soon! Emerging from a decade of teaching and learning at the Design Investigations Department @dieangewandte the book asks: if the answers we've inherited have led us to this moment of profound planetary and societal disquiet, then isn't the most radical act to reclaim the power of the question? DESIGNING QUESTIONS is both a philosophical manifesto and a practice-led field guide, featuring extraordinary student work from @design_investigations alongside contributions from Paola Antonelli @paolantonelli (foreword), Lilli Hollein @lillihollein (afterword), Fiona Raby @ny__f Vanessa de Oliveira Andreotti, Giovanna de Oliveira Andreotti, Zoy Anastassakis, Nana Biamah-Ofosu @biamah.ofosu Rory Hyde @rory_hyde and Angela Neubauer @neo_angien . Published by @hatjecantzverlag , produced by the Angewandte Publication department, and edited by Naoki Matsuyama @nkytsym , the book explores how speculative, ecological, and futures design can help us navigate a deeply complex world with imagination, care, and joy. For everyone who cares about our futures and is itching to do things differently, we hope this book brings a dose of inspiration from our little corner of the world. ⚡Worldwide release: 18 March 2026 📌Book launch: 29th April, die Angewandte Wien 🔥Most important, PRE-ORDERS are now open [link in our bio] A limited number of copies are being printed, and it's beautifully designed by Theresa Hattinger @thehat - you'll want a physical copy. Such a project always takes a village and there are so many people we want to thank; particularly all our students at Design Investigations - past present and future, all our teaching colleagues and collaborators, Roswitha Janowski-Fritsch, Stefanie Schabhüttl, @ronjakappl @hannaktrn @leo.muehlfeld and the extended Angewandte community 💙 . . . #designingquestions #anabjain #nikoheep #stefanzinell #angewandte —

Sparkling Tree Decorations from Gablonz 1920–1980 . Editorial Design . “A bicycle, lobster, or slide rule as a tree decoration? Christmas ornaments have always been more than religious symbols—they reflect the zeitgeist, material innovations, and the limitless imaginations of their creators. Forging a bridge between handicraft and mass production, a fascinating world of design emerged in Jablonec nad Nisou in Bohemia that continues to captivate collectors to this day. This richly illustrated publication showcases the stylistic range and technical ingenuity of these Christmas tree decorations—from exquisite hollow glass and delicate beads to avant-garde forms—using examples from the collection of the art historian Waltraud Neuwirth, which she has kindly donated to the @mak_vienna ” . In May 25 we as @1zwei3_official were invited by @williewilliestudio to show at their artist run art fair @reset.atelier in Brussels. The three works we presented were inspired by the ongoing, often unglamorous “to-do” list for our space in Vienna. These are things that never quite feel urgent enough to complete before the next opening, constantly postponed in the face of other artistic and administrative commitments. And so, we used this invitation as an opportunity to realize them. Each of these works then became part of our space’s everyday infrastructure. Guests who wish to sit on the lawn in summer can make themselves comfortable on Picnic Blanket (Theresa Hattinger) and quite literally engage with the 20m² floor plan of the space. With Shelf under our Sink (Magdalena Kreinecker), we finally brought some order to the chaos beneath the washbasin—one of the few available storage spots in our exhibition space. And with Mirror (Amelie Bachfischer), we’ve at last found a most charming solution for a long-overlooked detail. Thanks to @yemopark for the heartfelt invitation and to all of @williewilliestudio for the warm welcome. . LANGSAM – SLOW for @smach_art SMACH 2025 opens on July 12th . The windbreak fabric panels you see here are the same ones skiers encounter on the slopes before difficult sections, dangerous intersections, or obstacles in winter. Decontextualized, both by season and location, their message changes purpose and becomes a suggestion to slow down, not for immediate physical safety reasons, but for existential and ecological ones in the medium to long term. The grassy slope hosting the artwork becomes a space for reflection on themes and phenomena such as, on one hand, hyper-capitalist consumerism and rampant progress, and on the other, downshifting, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and rethinking the human-nature relationship. The materials composing the installation were loaned by local ski resorts and an Austrian technical sponsor. In winter, they will return to their function as warnings on the ski slopes. . Knit and Weave at Schloss Hollenegg 03.05. - 01.06.2025 Saturdays and Sundays 11 am to 6 pm For Scale by Theresa Hattinger At Schloss Hollenegg, a yellow banner reading FOR SCALE greets visitors. It is part of Theresa Hattinger’s installation to explore ownership, measurement, and proportion. What appears small against the castle’s extensive walls is, in fact, 38 m², which relates roughly to the average living space per person in Europe. The work is a reflection on the distribution of property ownership and draws parallels to broader inequalities, including those in textile production. The project was made possible by Sattler Group, which produced it with its own PVC-coated membrane. Sattler Group is a family-owned company in Styria, Austria, specialising in high-quality technical textiles for applications ranging from truck tarpaulins and tents to sun protection and biogas storage.
