The visual map of World Citizen by photographer Gustav Willeit is shaped by a variety of intricate aesthetic patterns, picturing vast land- and cityscapes. With formal precision and balanced compositions, these shots taken in Europe, Africa, the US, and Asia juxtapose the overwhelming scale and eternal balance of the pristine land with extractivist industrial structures and monotonous cityscapes. Aesthetic contemplation is linked to the subtle reflection on the broken network of interspecies life on the planet. The unsustainable system appears as a temporary condition, counterintuitive and harmful to the eternally balanced manifestation of nature.

In den fotografischen Arbeiten von Gustav Willeit werden menschliche Eingriffe in die Landschaft sichtbar – zwischen Architektur, Vernachlässigung und fortschreitender Urbanisierung. Seine Bilder setzen sich kritisch mit der Frage auseinander, wie wir unsere Umwelt formen und nutzen, und thematisieren das Spannungsfeld zwischen Natur und kapitalistischem Fortschritt. Durch präzise Bildkompositionen und digitale Ästhetiken laden die Arbeiten dazu ein, unsere Wahrnehmung von Realität und die Authentizität von Bildern zu hinterfragen.

Nelle opere fotografiche di Gustav Willeit emergono chiaramente gli interventi umani sul paesaggio, tra architetture invasive, tracce di abbandono e urbanizzazione crescente. Le sue immagini riflettono criticamente sul modo in cui abitiamo, trasformiamo e utilizziamo l’ambiente, evidenziando la tensione tra natura e progresso capitalistico. Attraverso composizioni precise ed estetiche digitali, i lavori invitano inoltre a interrogarsi sulla nostra percezione della realtà e sull’autenticità delle immagini.
