Statement from the Edge Gallery Board On behalf of the Edge Gallery Board, we want to acknowledge the concerns that have recently been brought to our attention regarding actions and behaviours carried out in the name of the organization. We understand that an individual made personal comments to the media representing The Edge Gallery, and we are deeply concerned by the impact this has had on our members, neighbours, and community partners. We are especially saddened to hear how these actions have affected MOPS, an organization doing vital work in our community during an ongoing and devastating drug toxicity crisis. We recognize the harm that has been caused and want to acknowledge the seriousness of this situation and our actions that created harm. We are deeply disheartened by how The Edge Gallery has been represented. These actions do not reflect our values, mission, or vision. As a Board, we take full responsibility for addressing this matter and acknowledge that we must do better. We are committed to accountability, respectful engagement, and rebuilding trust within our organization and the broader community. We are actively reviewing what has occurred and taking steps to ensure our practices and communications align with our organizational standards moving forward. Swipe to see some of our next steps. We are committed to moving forward in a meaningful, respectful, and collaborative way. Thank you to those who brought these concerns forward. We also recognize the urgency of the current drug toxicity crisis in Manitoba and we are using our voice to call for a public health emergency in response to the preventable loss of community members. We encourage those who wish to support this call to action to learn more and sign the petition via the link in bio. If you have questions or feedback, please contact us at [email protected]

Did you know The Edge also offers team-building activities, birthday parties for both kids and grown-ups, and one- and two-day workshops? These nine participants dove into a handbuilding workshop and created completely unique mugs—each one decorated with underglazes, stamps, and their own personal style. You can too. Come get your hands in clay and make something that’s entirely yours. Image description: Nine women proudly holding out their mugs against a gray background. Each mug is decorated differently using underglazes, stamps, and other techniques. #WinnipegArt #CeramicsWorkshop #HandmadeMugs #TheEdgeStudio #CreativeCommunity

There’s something grounding about clay on the wheel — the steady rhythm, the focus, the quiet transformation of something soft into something lasting. At The Edge, our wheel throwing classes are open to everyone — whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills. Learn in small groups (up to 8 students) or come with someone special and book a class for two with a gift certificate. From mugs and bowls to platters, plates, and teapots, the possibilities are as wide as your imagination. With guidance from our experienced instructors (all with fine arts backgrounds), you’ll build both confidence and technique — one spin at a time. Image descriptions: Image 1: A group of students focused at their wheels, hands deep in clay, each piece taking shape as they work. Image 2: A man and woman at their wheels, smiling as they form a heart shape with their hands. Image 3: Another group of students learning to centre their clay, hands steady as the wheels spin beneath them. #WheelThrowing #PotteryClass #ClayCommunity #WinnipegArt #TheEdgeStudio

🔮 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS! 🔮 Calling all Winnipeg and Manitoba 2SLGBTQIA+ artists! Submissions are now open for this year’s Queerious exhibition at The Edge Gallery! In the original Pride flag violet stands for spirit. This was meant to represent the spirit of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, the resilience, creativity, and ultimately pride. When I think of spirit, I think of spirituality and the history that queer people have with being seen as more connected to the world beyond, often viewed as spiritual advisors for their community. Gender non-conforming individuals, such as Two-Spirit people of Indigenous cultures across Turtle Island, or babaylan of the Philippines, were especially seen as having a stronger connection to the spirits and were often revered in their communities because of this. Winnipeg itself has a strong history associated with spiritualism and individuals searching for a connection between the living and the spirits beyond. Dr. T.G. Hamilton and his wife Lillian conducted hundreds of seances in their home on Henderson Highway between 1918 and 1945, attracting many spiritualists to Winnipeg. In 2008-2010 artist AA Bronson, of General Idea collective, created a collaborative performance series called “Invocation of Queer Spirits” touching on the link between spiritualism and the history queer people have with their connection to the otherworldly. Queerious is about representing 2SLGBTQIA+ artists in Winnipeg and Manitoba and the work they make. If your work doesn’t fit into the above theme please still submit! You do not need to make new work to submit. Any medium accepted, two- or three-dimensional. With a limit of 5 submissions per artist. The exhibition will be @theedgegallery from May 29 - June 9, 2026. Please send high quality images of your work (jpeg or png), with the title of the work, year it was made, medium, and dimensions, and a short artist bio of 100-200 words to [email protected]. Please include your pronouns and how you identify with your submission. Submissions will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT May 10, 2026. Submissions will be reviewed after May 10, and all artists will be contacted whether they are selected or not.

There’s something special happening in our sculptural clay workshops ✨ Led by ceramic artist PJ Anderson, these sessions invite people to move beyond the wheel and into expressive, three-dimensional forms. The results? Wild, thoughtful, and completely one-of-a-kind vases—each one carrying its own personality, story, and mood. PJ Anderson is a ceramic artist from Thompson. Pj has shown Nationally across Canada and internationally, as Resident Artist at the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, where she had previously visited as a Zulu ceramics researcher, China as a finalist in the International Ceramic Magazine Editors Associations (ICMEA) emerging artist competition, the United States. We are so lucky that she’s teaching her at The Edge! As an instructor, she creates a space where experimentation is encouraged and individuality shines—no two pieces ever come out the same, and that’s exactly the point. Watching these vases come to life has been incredible. Every student approaches the clay differently, and every piece feels like a small world of its own. Image descriptions: Image 1: PJ Anderson seated at a table, working on a sculptural clay vase up in front of her face, smiling and talking as she works on the small details of her work Image 2: A group of students gathered around a pottery table, seated in chairs and focused on shaping their individual clay vases. Image 3: Close-up of a woman’s hands carefully forming details on a clay vase, her concentration visible as she shapes the surface. #WinnipegArt #CeramicSculpture #ClayWorkshop #TheEdgeStudio #CreativeCommunity

Texture changes everything. In clay, texture holds memory. It catches glaze, deepens shadow, softens light. It can be subtle or bold — a quiet pattern pressed into a mug, or a carved surface that turns a vessel into something sculptural. At The Edge Gallery & Ceramic Studio, we love exploring all the ways texture can transform a piece. From patterned rollers and wooden stamps to lace, crochet, and richly textured fabrics — even carving tools and dental tools can create unexpected marks and shapes in the clay. We also have a massive collection of stamps to choose from: roller stamps, alphabet sets, animals, people, trees, places, and shelves full of rubber stamps with intricate patterns. If you can imagine it pressed into clay, there’s a good chance we have it. Come make your mark! Image Descriptions 1️⃣ A tabletop covered with a variety of wooden pottery stamps, each with different patterns and textures. 2️⃣ An extensive selection of rubber stamps arranged closely together. 3️⃣ A large clear plastic bin overflowing with individual stamps in many shapes and designs. 4️⃣ An assortment of carving and mark-making tools laid out side by side, including loop tools, carving knives, and fine detail tools. 5️⃣ A large box filled with lace, crochet pieces, and textured fabrics used to imprint patterns into clay. 6️⃣ A lineup of colourful plastic rolling pins, each with its own repeating pattern for creating textured surfaces in clay. #WinnipegArt #CeramicStudio #PotteryTexture #ClayLife #TheEdgeWinnipeg

An interview with Andrew Idemudia about his artwork Our Compound and all things water. The topic of water is something that affects those all over the world. In Winnipeg, we get clean drinking water from Shoal Lake, where the Indigenous people living at Shoal Lake 40 First Nation were under a boil water advisory for decades, until recently. Water is something a lot of settler Canadians take for granted, and we can all benefit from taking a moment to consider where our water comes from. Come see his work Borokiri Waterside which is replacing this work for the last week of the show. Exhibition funded by @mbartscouncil Thanks for watching! #artistinterview #blackartist #curatortalk #emergingartist waterislife
