My piece “One In The Same Strand” is inspired by the theme of the exhibition: “Where Our Roots Connect”.
I styled, braided, designed a set and photographed my beautiful friends (Thanks
@dara_nfon for help with the braiding) for this piece. We did a continuous braid between the 4 models with crochet vines braided in. I embroidered the photos and attached 3D vines coming out of the braids before framing them, in frames also connected by crochet vines. I have wooden hands at the top holding my favourite crochet hook, painted to look like my hands, and of course I had to give myself an A$HES manicure 💅🏾. The photos are set up to look unified, a group of women connected and leaning on each other. When you look closely you see the distinctions between them, each model uniquely dressed and showing off their traditional attire.
I put the collage of all 4 models outfits as the centerpiece to highlight how beautiful all the differences are when they come together 🩷
This was a really new and fun project for me, thank you
@blackartistswpg &
@oliviacassie_ for inspiring me to try something new! I needed a quick break from making mini skirts
