Update 2024: Foster fail! Adopted by her foster family!
Little lamb for adoption 🐑 Nellie (aka Winter Melon) is a 1.5yo Doodle looking for an adopter. She’s in foster care in #ParkSlope with my friend, and adjusting marvelously to city life. Fetch at the park, friendly vibes with people and dogs (incl on-leash), playful, sweet, wiggly, smart and treat-motivated; she’s a gem. Nellie has a freshly shaved ‘bod from prior matting, and is very skinny so she will look even more adoptable (!) soon. She was rescued from a southern shelter and is getting a whole new lease on life!

4 years ago *today* I was quoted in the @nytimes on the topic of @fosterdogs . Still in awe of how everyone signed up to foster, once lockdown hit. So many dogs were saved and I still keep in touch with some who became “foster fails” thru getting adopted ❤️

(UPDATE: Adopted 3/2024!) • When you can’t foster, say HI to every dog. 👋 And when that dog turns out to be a foster, you’ve hit the jackpot. 🏆 This morning, I met wildly adorable low-rider Precious, from @nycacc #190090. She’s in foster in Brooklyn, and is ready for adoption! 58 lbs, 4yo. Eager to greet other dogs on leash, *quite* excited in fact! Her foster mom told me she’s a perfect combo of active, and lazy. She can sleep on the couch all day, or play and romp! Plus: she snores! 😍 Photo doesn’t do her justice of her short and wide “dense” frame. She’s a wonderful size for an apartment, tbh. I got to smush her jowls a bit and WOW 10/10 soft.

🦥 Shaggy has always adored getting loveys, but Ozzie would gladly choose to rip them to shreds. He took no mercy on the dog toys, though was surprisingly good at leaving the kids’ stuffies alone (what a pro!). Ever since we said goodbye to Ozzie, Shaggy has connected with his latent puppy side - and grabs his sloth whenever he feels a burst of energy, or is feeling lonely, or needs a little comfort. Grateful for our emotional support sloth. Who would have thought this 10yo guy would have a whole new chapter in his retirement years?

My “little” Ozzie. 🖤 Having people in your circle who think of getting a beautiful gift like this, brings joy in so many ways. It’s been a dark, dark time in the world over the past month, but this sweet mini Ozzie makes me pause and smile.
Such an incredibly thoughtful gift from my friend Emily @emily_dimola who is also a huge dog lover and knows what pet loss feels like. The loss of her one-of-a-kind Boxer Dexter hit hard last year, but she quickly opened her home to a young #fosterBoxer Shiloh who ended up becoming a permanent family member.

B-A-N-J-O 🪕 Banjo was his name-oh! It’s Adopt a Senior Dog Month! ➡️ 11 yo #BlackLab Banjo in #Louisiana is looking for a new home. Neutered, vaccinated, housetrained. He’s from the same home as the previous dog I posted: Babka; though the two are not bonded. He was adopted at 1.5 years old, as a young adult. He’s about 60 lbs and has been friendly with his young human siblings.
Banjo’s owners say he is “low energy and is just as happy lounging as he is on a walk. He will sell his soul for a tennis ball. 🎾 And he will keel over from playing fetch if given the opportunity. He really likes when you say his name and give him pets.” He tends to guard tennis balls, especially if he finds one. “He's really a gentle giant and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Banjo is very food motivated and at one point knew hand signals for retrieving.” 👏
Interested in adopting? DM and I’ll connect you with the owner! He’s a childhood friend of mine and I’m helping the family spread the word. The owner will drive Banjo to a new home depending on location, whether it’s within a few hrs of New Orleans, or NY Tri State area.

Babka the #Beagle mix is looking for a home. His family in Louisiana is unable to keep him, and want to find him a great new life. Note: I know the owner personally and he offered to drive Babka to his eventual new home. Location: open!
10 year old Babka was found as a 2 month old small puppy, at the time looking much more Shepherd-like. He is active and playful, and gets along well with kids and other dogs. He does not get along with cats or other small animals. Babka knows basic commands. He is good on a leash with a gentle leader on a walk by himself. He is very fast, very agile and just wants to play. He is up to date on vaccines and health checks, and is on heartworm and flea/tick preventative (he would come with a year’s supply).
Babka lives with another dog (Black Lab, see photo), but they are not bonded to one-another and can go to separate homes.

My gorgeous guy 💔 While I shared this on my other account @thedogmatchmaker , I haven’t yet shared here because it feels too real to post on his account. Ozzie has left us. He was nearly 13 years old, having been in our little family since he was 7 weeks old. He was the cake topper at our wedding! And he’s been by our side through the first years for both our kids.
He had been been a sturdy, healthy fellow his entire life; sure, a few growths removed over the years but overall healthy as a horse. Several months ago, Ozzie had his first seizure. It happened a couple more times but was manageable (though it was scary and sad). Then, poor Ozzie had a horrible episode while on a short 10 min walk, because that’s all the walking he could handle anymore, and he collapsed on the sidewalk and couldn’t move. Blue Pearl got him back in action and he started Keppra, which gave us the gift of more time with him. This anti-seizure medication was incredible once the side effects wore off, and he could be himself again. But I ALWAYS knew that I wouldn’t let him suffer, and would ensure his quality of life was the best. Two weeks ago, Ozzie suffered two back to back grand mal seizures at home. He went back to Blue Pearl, and was given everything to help him have a chance to come home, but it wasn’t enough. So after speaking with the vet, we made the heartbreaking decision to let him go. This big handsome loving carb-loving bulldozer of a dog. Shaggy truly misses Ozzie, as do all of us humans. The house feels empty. Even though it was the compassionate and right choice for Ozzie, it never gets easier. I’m grateful for all our photos from over the years to look back on and smile. Thank you for reading and for following this account. ❤️
