One of the goals we have here with CCLB is to provide on-the-job-training to Corpsmembers for one year which is then followed up by placement into a job or post-secondary education. In another edition of “CCLB Alumni”, check out this video spotlighting Johanna and Pablo, new employees of @calecodesign and get a glimpse into the important work they are doing to make environments more climate resilient. #thecclb #calecodesign @longbeachcity @californialocalcorps @thecorpsnetwork

CCLB’s Shore Corps crew joined @algalita for a day of kayaking in Alamitos Bay as a training session for the Clean Bay Collective. The Clean Bay Collective is a community-powered effort to understand and protect Alamitos Bay, a popular local waterway enjoyed by locals and wildlife that happens to also be at risk. As part of the Collective, Shore Corps will be collecting water quality information within the Bay to deepen the understanding of the Bay’s health and strengthen the body of data needed to take action for improvement. #cclb #algalita @longbeachcity @californialocalcorps @thecorpsnetwork

On Friday, we celebrated the ground breaking of our newest project funded by our wonderful partners @calfire . In collaboration with @ymcalb and with the support of Dake Landscape and the offices of @cw_maryzendejas , @senatorgonzalez , and @asmlowenthal , we are renovating six YMCA preschool playgrounds to create healthier and richer play spaces for children and families. “These improvements will not only enhance the play and learning experience for children, but also deliver meaningful environmental and public health benefits,” said Dan Knapp, CCLB Executive Director and CEO. “We are proud to partner with the YMCA, and we’re grateful for CAL FIRE for funding this project that will bring sustainable, community-centered green spaces to life.” Project benefits include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, mitigating extreme heat, improving air and water quality, reducing energy use, and enhancing stormwater management. The redesigned spaces will also provide hands-on environmental learning opportunities for corpsmembers and promote outdoor recreation, supporting overall community health and well-being. . #thecclb @californialocalcorps @thecorpsnetwork @longbeachcity

CCLB has been working in Puente Hills through funding from the @riversandmountainsconservancy for its Wildfire Strike Teams. In coordination with the @habitatauthority in the Puente Hills Habitat Preserve, corpsmembers are conducting wildfire fuel reduction, native and invasive vegetation management, and trail maintenance. Part of the work involves widening and brushing the existing roads and trails so that emergency vehicles and fire engines are able to pass through, pull off, and turn around. This is important work to be done to protect local communities and help create more resilient urban areas. . #thecclb @californialocalcorps @thecorpsnetwork #habitatauthority #riversandmountainsconservancy

THIS is our WHY! Our goal is to provide training in both hard and soft skills that lead to gainful employment and Marilyn took us up on this effort from the day she signed up to participate in our program. We are grateful for everyone that made this possible for her and excited to continue hearing about her success! . #longbeachcity #thecclb #californialocalcorps #thecorpsnetwork @californialocalcorps @lbpublicworks
