More median enhancements have been put into effect with @thecclb in North Long Beach! With new housing on this stretch of Atlantic Ave., there is so much potential for this area. Lots of great old storefronts here should benefit from the foot traffic these homes will bring. Our other project, the courtyard garden at Michelle Obama Library is right across from this.

Among the red buckwheat blooms I discovered what is known as a Great Golden Digger Wasp. They are docile to humans unless threatened, but effective hunters of garden pests like grasshoppers and crickets. They paralyze their prey and leave them in their underground burrows for their offspring to eat… cool huh? They get their food from the nectar of flowers like these and help pollinate them in the process. #calecodesign #bugs #pollinators #flowers #ecofriendlylandscaping

It’s hard not to think of metaphors and omens when a butterfly floats into a jobsite of dirt and rubble. So here goes… Transformation begins with demolishing the old rigid notions, selecting the fragments that serve us, and letting go of the rest. With intention, a new form takes shape. In the space between the fragments, we find flexibility and forgiveness. The fissures and lines create character and tell their own story of triumph!
