🎉 THE PANTOMIME IS ON SALE 🎉 Meet Mary and Joseph. They’re two thirtysomethings, born just before the turn of the millennium (the first millennium). They live in Zone 3 Galilee, in their tiny flat, with their donkey, Wonky. And absolutely nothing, nothing whatsoever, can stop Mary’s ambitions of becoming Prime Mayor of Galilee. No angels. No shepherds. No wise men. Certainly no sex. And that’s that. It’s like your classic Primary School Christmas Show, but with even dodgier costumes, even smaller budgets, even more waving at family members mid-show, and also loads of swearing and sex jokes and original songs. The fifth show from the team behind Sleeping Beauty (2024), The Emperor’s New Clothes (2023), Peter Pan (2022) and The Pied Piper (2021), this is The AlterNativity. It’s Nativity, but Panto. Book your tickets now whilst there’s still room at the inn/theatre. Link in bio.

❣️ Festivals are a bit like love letters, and with only a few hours to play with for Desire Lines, this one had to be super intentional. For those who don't know them, it's our great joy to introduce the the genre-bending, defiant, resilient, raw & brilliant musicians we have playing live on the River Stage: @duendita is coming to be with us all the way from NYC! We are so so lucky. A performer, producer & songwriter whose range of feeling and energy is totally unique. When she came out with ‘A Strong Desire to Survive’ earlier this year we knew she had to be at Desire Lines, as an artist who navigates self preservation, self-authored expression and strength so powerfully. @hotcocoacartel is a force of nature, french/senegalese artist who has produced some of the most spine-tingling records that we’ve enjoyed in recent times, from her album with Brazil’s Grupo Cosmo to the brand new single, Deus Deus. “I wrote it in hopes to uplift people who have felt like giving up. It is an invitation to count our blessings even when things feel relentless." @chiminyo_sound 's NRG! A special edition of this incredible series, where a stellar lineup of musicians make an entirely improvised set for one night only, with each gig becoming a standalone album. This is gonna bring some SERIOUS heat! Brainchild family & special guests: @oscjerome (guitar), @wonky_logic (bass), @jackstephensonoliver (keys/synths), @kaidi_akinnibi (sax), @aflasackey1 (perc) + Chiminyo (kit) !! @losimpl3 are an explosion in motion, a new band of big legends (Sheiva, Galgo and Dandy) who have stolen our hearts. When we imagined their guitar-driven and raw, electrifying and cheeky energy kicking off the day we just knew it had to happen! Go check their debut single, ‘Calm’ and new single Paradise, out yesterday. @otta is a genre-defying Finish/British artist/producer. Her latest EP ‘WITH LOVE FROM EVERYWHERE’ mixes periods of collaborative bursts from friends with intricate productions from times of solitude. She packs punch together with vulnerability, weaves noise explosions with silky smooth delights - her project is bursting with life and originality. Set times published next week! ✨

Introducing the musicians, DJs & theatre-makers for Desire Lines! And thank you @rohan_rakhit for having us live on air to share these with you this morning 🌞 This is the part where we’d normally say ‘cop your tickets’ or something but you guys already SMASHED that and sold it out in 3 days?! So yeah, we’re still giddy from that and even more excited to stitch it all together in the coming weeks. But a big part of what we do is 𝓹𝓻𝓸𝓶𝓸𝓽𝓮 𝓪𝓻𝓽𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓼 and so even if you can’t come, or were never going to, we’d love for you to get familiar with these creators and their offerings 💐 💐 it will be good for your soul. On our River Stage, we’ve got an eclectic, ethereal and powerful lineup of musicians for you, from SE London locals @otta.ottr 's full band to our fav new collab project @losimpl3 (@sheivasonfire + @gal.go + @dannyjer.om ) to NYC’s own magical @duendita , to internationally renowned French-Senegalese @hotcocoacartel , and a one-time-only, improvised collab set between Brainchild mainstays as a special edition of @chiminyo_sound 's NRG to close off our live acts (lineup yet to be announced but it’s shaping up HOT!). Taking us into the evening dance we have none other than the genre-defying maestro @rohan_rakhit , handing over to a night-time of b2bs from homies @_bushbby_ & @papa0ul and @s.hivum & @lagoon.lurve ! Our trusted guardians of Brainchild dance floors past, present & future. In the Piano room and in the grounds, we’ll be getting intimate with new ideas and works in progress from writers and performers we adore: @hotterproject , @temi.wilkey , @franklyfrankie98 , @drespisto + @joananastari , @jodiemitchetc , @dragprov … alongside some very special, unannounceable guests. These are the masters of the kind of clever silliness that you can get lost in, roll around laughing and questioning things you had never considered. And then, of course, Karaoke to close. ꩜ Stay tuned for Art installations, marketplace sellers & talks announcements soon to follow ꩜ Artwork shouts to @_josie_tucker_ as always ❣️

Introducing Desire Lines, 19 July 🌀 Tickets are now on sale for our intimate 500 capacity, multi-arts day-festival at one of South East London’s most precious and little-known gems, @the.shipwright . A house and garden party right on the river, this will be a beautiful reunion with an all-day programme of live music, DJs, theatre works-in-progress, talks, art installations and a marketplace for DIY art, zines and activism, as well as delicious food and drinks from some of our favourite SE local independents 🍦 We went on sale to our mailing list yesterday and more than 40% have already gone!! What on EARTH! We love you guys so much. 🌸 𝕄𝕠𝕣𝕖 𝕒𝕓𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕕𝕒𝕪... ‘Desire Lines’ are the paths we make when we go where we want, how we want, despite the route that’s been set for us. When thinking about what we wanted to put on this summer, this is the spirit we kept returning to. As a theme, this is about conjuring the intentional and joyful energy of doing what you want, forever (to quote our friends at @localactionrec ) while also holding space for the reality that sometimes that is really hard! Whether you’re running a creative business, sustaining careers as artists, or just trying to be expressed and fully yourself in today’s political and financial climate… we want this day to hold you wherever you are, to recharge you, to bring you strength and joy. All the artists taking part are invited to share exactly what they want, to be safe to take creative risks, and our programme of conversations will all be about learning from each other - our thwarted plans, how we make it work, how we build collective resilience. Lineup coming very soon 🐸 Artwork by the gorgeous @_josie_tucker_ 💛

📢 Four New Shows Announced 📢 We're so excited to share with you another year of independent, grassroots, multi-arts shows, made by some of our absolute favourite artists working in London today. From up-close readings of game-changing works of literature, told to you by magnetic performers, to a day-festival of dancing, conversation, big ideas and joy, we can't wait to welcome you back to our spectacular home by the river Thames. See you soon! In Spring, a cover-to-cover reading of THE GREAT GATSBY, Fitzgerald's fable of American carelessness, featuring Omari Douglas, Shon Faye, Otamere Guobadia, Dominic Homes and some exciting yet-to-be announced readers. Plus gorgeous music from the inimitable Tom Foskett-Barnes. In Summer, a day festival of live music, DJs, performance, food and drink from the award-winning BRAINCHILD. Full line-up to be announced in a few weeks, but expect bold, experimental, soul-expanding things from this South London power-house of grassroots festival culture. In Autumn, a performance of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's iconic gothic masterpiece, THE YELLOW WALLPAPER, directed by Valentina Ceschi. A landmark text exploring a single woman's nightmarish experience, this intimate up-close performance will delve deep into the shadows. And in Winter, the return of our annual PANTOMIME, by the Shipwright ensemble, directed by Joseph Winters. Joy, silliness, songs and sweets abound!

The Shipwright annual pantomime is back! Once upon a dream, Sleeping Beauty was the perfect panto. But this year, everything is topsy-turvy in Deptford. Not that Princess Aurora minds - she’s more of a Princess A’Whora and actually quite likes it upside down. But our Witch is no good (she’s too nice and not evil). And Prince Charming is just a bit of a dick. But he can sing. They can all sing! So come and let us sing your socks off (you shouldn’t wear them in bed anyway). From the creative team that brought you The Pied Piper and The Emperor’s New Clothes comes a night of festive fun, new songs and oh yes she is behind you (oo-er!). Don’t sleep on it.
