Minor Moon :: 𝑳𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒕 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒘𝒆𝒅 𝑶𝒖𝒕 :: on April 10th, in collaboration with @truthzonerecs , we’re putting out a limited run of CDs from our set at @thawedoutfest last spring :: we’ll be celebrating with a release show on Saturday, 4.11.26 at @hideoutchicago with our shining star bud @lilyseabird , on big long tour from Burlington, VT in support of their recent album Trash Mountain ✨
The album was recorded by milwaukee taper @rmhaze with a stereo pair of Beyerdynamic MC930s in ORTF & a board rip. Richard sent over the tracks a few months after the show. I’d completely forgotten he’d recorded the set so it was a pleasant surprise — and then I was really taken by the performance. I hit up @publichouserecs and we got it sounding prettty juicy I think!! 𝑳𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒕 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒘𝒆𝒅 𝑶𝒖𝒕 features The Light Up Waltz core band — Chet Zenor (@luckycloud.hz ), Jason Ashworth (@jason.g.ashworth ), Max Subar (@max.subar ) & Sam Subar (@sam.subar ) — and it will be available exclusively on Bandcamp.

Meet the musicians of FAR OUT: A Carnatic Indian jazz fusion event–Patri Satish Kumar, one of India’s leading mridangam players.
Patri Satish Kumar will be joined by Ryan Jewell and Bill Mackay for an unforgettable evening of soul stirring Carnatic jazz fusion on Satuday, October 4th at 6pm. 🌌
Multiple ticket types are on sale now, including a dining package in collaboration with Michelin-nominated Mexican-Indian fusion restaurant MIRRA. Don’t miss out on this unique celebration of South Indian fusion culture, only at the iO Theater on October 4th.
First inducted into music by his renowned violinist mother, who noticed his talent at tapping his school lunchbox in rhythm, Kumar went on to study under three Andhra Pradesh gurus—S Ramachandramurthy, VA Swami and V Narasimham.
Kumar is known for his fine dynamic control and architectural solo phrasings. He credits his teachers with broadening his mind, recounting that they never set him ambitious goals beyond immersing himself in the music as fully as he could.
He says that “the mridangam chose me and not the other way around” and is a firm believer that the success and longevity of a musician’s relationship with his instrument is deeply influenced by the instrument’s acquiescence and free will.
Patri has worked in jazz settings too, and his Dancing Drums project involves a large ensemble of layered percussion instruments. But his forays into fusion have not diluted his classical playing, which still forms the focal point of his stellar career, where he is regularly praised for his technique, supreme musicality, passion and effortless virtuosity on the mridangam.
