On the last night of my billboard’s month long tenure, Thanks to @artpopstreetgallery @thelendingtreefoundation and @outfrontmediausa I have had a 92ft + tall billboard loop in Times Square. I was born in what is now called Mt Sanai West almost 37 years ago just a few blocks away…I took my first ballet class at BDC another few blocks from here, I had my first live audition steps from this place, the audition that sent me to Hollywood for the first time ever occurred some short blocks from here, I used to work yet another few blocks away at Levi’s Harold Square…and would trek into either the Port Authority or Penn Station (depending on how much time I had) all while scarcely making above minimum wage but just knowing that I would one day feel as accomplished as I knew I could be. Today….I AM…I’m so blown away at how massive this moment is for me a black self taught fashion designer with no major contacts or acclaim has managed to stand 92 + feet tall in his OWN work with his OWN face in the heart of Times Square looking like something he could truly be proud of. I’ve dreamt in this life, but never TRULY as big as what reality has actually become for me in 2023. While I allowed myself to “take in” the magnitude of this weekend, I still left a margin of space…until now…because I knew that pull would be greater than anything I could ever fathom being able to handle. Today…tearfully…I welcome every ounce of pride that is due SUCH a momentous moment. I struggle with allowing myself to live in the moment at times but right now…no other moment exists but the one that belongs to me. To a younger version of my self, this might be what a super hero looks like….and he might be kind of right. Shout out to my brothers @undaheightlova and @unstoppablebuddha for helping me mob out during my stay and thank you and congratulations to all my classmates that have so much to celebrate as well! A week ago today I got the chance to spend the morning on set with @janaangeltv of @qclife talking about the Met Gala and how local designers like myself find inspo each year with such a massive night in fashion! I can’t wait for my yearly visit to @metmuseum to see the @metcostumeinstitute exhibit in person (come ON tax write off inspiration trip!!) Of course the day was made even better because I got to bring along THE model herSELF @jashantabrown to show off another one of my looks. I’m so grateful for opportunities like these to show what I do and the staff and crew at @qclife ALWAYS make the set a joy to get to walk on to. 17 days of fun and whimsy in the books. Although I’ve moved out of the wondrous wardrobe uptown, I have without a DOUBT not forgotten every face that I saw light up as they turned the corner and will be sure to continue to share images and video from such a special time!! So grateful to get to do what I love and have the opportunity to share it. RIGHT after closing Dow SHOUT! This year and finally moving all of my Wondrous Wardrobe out of uptown, I had 6 days to make a gown 🙃….whelp here we are 🤷🏾‍♂️ As always, I’m eternally blown away by my sis @jashantabrown . You take the assignment and run off to higher heights EVERY time! @kaityross you REALLY snapped and I can’t thank you enough for bringing my Make Up/ Beauty dream to life!!
