Incredibly honored to be a fellow for the 2026 Sundance Institute Native Lab. I haven’t even been in Santa Fe for a full day and already I feel so invigorated and inspired by the other fellows, artists in residence, and our talented advisors. I love stories. They mean so much to me. I love that this experience will now be part of mine.
The best time I’ve ever had! I got to go to Santa Fe for the first time and be a fellow in the Sundance Institute Native Lab. A script of mine was a featured selection for April on the Blacklist. And even if I did get double pneumonia and had to go to the ER for the first time, the lighting was good. Thanks to everyone who’s helped me get this far, including my beloved @onlymysecondrodeo and friends, old and new.
My survival drama, Leviathan, was chosen to be a Featured Project on the Black List for the month of April! Back in late 2022, I began thinking of a script idea about a man pursuing a sea monster as a cathartic writing exercise for myself to confront my fear of the deep ocean. Somehow that turned into a story about revenge, forgiveness, and seeing yourself clearly. I’m incredibly grateful more people will get the opportunity to read it.
Thanks to artist Alina Kropachova (@alikro ) for the incredible poster, and to everyone at @theblcklst who had a part in selecting Leviathan. Hopefully, we’ll get the chance to see it on the big screen someday soon.
I was not told about the drapes color in advance.
Happy to celebrate women and nonbinary artists at last night’s beautiful Radiance event, put together by @capeusa . It was an inspiring list of honorees, and I was particularly excited to see Moana 2 celebrated among them.
Had a great day at Netflix celebrating the completion of the @peakpasifika Writers Fellowship. I’ll miss hanging out with these incredibly talented people every week, but can’t wait to see all the amazing stuff they’re going to do next 🤙🏼@tiakaiulanikanaeholo@evilo2017@sophs_chill@daviskop@mattdknf
Saying farewell to a great love of my life: Toph. She was blind, oddly shaped, and had a weird voice. Above all things, she loved food, yelling, and being a silly goose. Some of the most consequential years of my life I spent with her. When I think of her, I shall remember cradling her like a baby, humming a song as we bop around the Glendale apartment while the sun sets.
Incredibly honored to be a part of @peakpasifika ’s inaugural Writers Fellowship class. I can’t wait to participate in this program and meet the other fellows, mentors, and creatives. Also, it’s very cool to see the title, Samoan/American in print for the first time. This story has been on my mind for a long time. Thanks to @dledouxm@whatwouldkritdo@humblesandwich and everyone else who put their faith in me.
I was honored to be invited to the Stowe Narrative Lab this year and can’t adequately express just how inspiring, moving, and fun the whole experience was. Four days was not nearly enough time to spend in the company of such kind and talented people. I didn’t want it to end, but am excited for all the good things that will come because of it. Thanks to @d_rocchio@davidpope.stories@katerina_eichenberger and everyone who made it possible. @stowestorylabs
