You can also catch Illyana uncompromisitng deejaying at this year’s edition of @solstice.festival . *** ILPO VÄISÄNEN*** 23:00 One half of pioneering Finnish electronic music duo Pan Sonic. Even as a veteran artist, Ilpo Väisänen keeps on pushing musical boundaries and exploring new sonic ground. *** ROLANDO SIMMONS *** 00:00 @rolandosimmonsmusic Supreme acid, and freaky, well-crafted rhythms. Rolando Simmons’ production is emotionally undeniable and musically irresistible. The prolific artist has music out on labels like 030303, Furthur Electronix, Analogical Force and Elektorni. *** JUHANI OIVO *** 01:00 @jaydayalldayeveryday Elektorni label head Oivo is happiest deejaying with various musical styles, on vinyl. His underlying hip-hop background haunts his electronic music sets and affinity for dub music is present in the abundance of low-end, percussion and reverberated soundscapes. *** MESAK *** 02:30 @hugebass Mesak (one half of pioneering electro duo Mr Velcro Fastener) brings his top-level, mind-melting club music machine live set to OHM. Mesak has evolved his sound across the decades. His newest musical amalgamation defies categorisation, key words electro, d&b, IDM and dub come close to orbit. A new Elektorni 12” of this new material on Elektorni Records is out in May. *** PICTURE + MANDEE *** 03:30 @netlzks @tequila_tears Fresh off their release on Short Span (also don’t forget to check last year’s Elektorni release!), Århus legend Picture steps in the arena with a b2b of off-kilter techno, with another key name from the Safe-crew, Manmade Deejay aka Mandee. The b-side graphic of the new Picture – Mi Mi 12” is made by Mathias Rosa Gil. Mathias Rosa Gil is an artist based in Aarhus Denmark and part of the collective of artists revolving around Safe Distribution. Whether record collecting, deejaying or making graphics, for Mathias, it all comes from an inquisitive mind. With no formal training, the common denominator in his work is curiosity with a hint of naivety. “The most positive outcome with what I do, is to be able to contribute to a greater whole. I’m lucky that i’m surrounded by many talented people. I place a great deal of importance on solidarity, and what I make could be considered a potpourri of things I have learned and picked up from my friends. ” Our thanks to Mathias for the fantastic graphics that perfectly fit the music on the 12”. We’re looking forward ending this years festival with over two hours of club music from some of the best locals in the game! As our closing party for this years ALTER we have invited local sweeties from Safe to do the job! Starting with a 45 minutes live set by Picture followed by a 90 minutes b2b djset by @ck__sounds and @tequila_tears . Operating under a cloak of mystery, the four people from Safe have worked with a myriad of projects including DJ Central, Alle, 2 bit Crew, Nehoki, Palta, Maizena and a lot more and have been the driving forces behind Aarhus house music, which has rightly received praise both at home and abroad. TROVE 017 | MANMADE DEEJAY | MUSIC Little did I know that the city of Aarhus in Denmark is known as The City of Smiles. No wonder the sonics spilling from locals like C.K, Central, and the Regelbau/Safe Distribution crew are so effervescent. Ever since I stumbled across their unique take on dance music, I have not been able to get enough. And that trend shows zero signs of slowing down. Introducing Manmade Deejay @tequila_tears aka Mandee (Mathias Okholm). Unsurprisingly, Mathias’s love of electronic music was moulded by seeing C.K. and Central play at parties around town. A self-confessed introvert at the time, Mathias would immerse himself in the sounds pumping from the speakers to escape being trapped in awkward conversations with partygoers. As he shares, “This kind of music became a comforting space for me.” Before long, Mathias had a fierce obsession with DJing and record collecting. “My brain always fixates on titles, numbers and dates, so collecting records was a great way to nurture this trait.” Gradually, he became closer and closer with the likes of Chris (C.K), Natal (Central) and Milán (DJ Sports), and soon, Mathias found himself entrenched in a collective he’d so long admired. “We saw eye to eye on so many things. The team just evolved through camaraderie.” For context, the first Regelbau/Safe Distribution release was over a decade ago, and to this day, Mathias and his friends continue to bring the world some of the bubbliest and most enjoyable club tracks.
