OMVF:N VUODEN 2026 FESTIVAALITEEMA ON HAUNTOPOLIS Oulun Musiikkivideofestivaalit järjestetään 33. kerran 27.–30. elokuuta. Ohjelmisto tarkastelee kaupunkia hauntologisena ja ruumiillisena tilana, jossa menneisyys, nykyhetki ja toteutumattomat tulevaisuudet limittyvät. Modernismin unelmat, klubikulttuurin huuma, alakulttuurien kapina ja digitaalisen aikakauden kylmät algoritmit kummittelevat samassa tilassa. Uusi syntyy vanhan sisällä: C-kasettien rapinana, VHS-kuvan haamujälkinä… Hauntopolis rakentaa Ouluun väliaikaisen musiikkivideo- ja elokuvakaupungin, jossa aikakaudet, kulttuurit ja estetiikat risteävät. Musiikin kautta kaupunki muuttuu yhteisölliseksi tilaksi. Keskiöön nousee erityisesti queer-kulttuuri, jonka omaehtoisuus on kautta historian synnyttänyt tilapäisen autonomian vyöhykkeitä – tiloja, joissa ihmiset luovat uusia tapoja olla ja elää yhdessä. Audiovisuaalisen vyörytyksen keskellä välähtelevät kadonneet tulevaisuudet, jotka odottavat yhä tilaisuuttaan. “Kutsumme yleisömme katsomaan näitä aaveita tarkemmin. Ehkä jokin niistä voi muuttua vielä mahdollisuudeksi: paremmaksi nykyhetkeksi, paremmaksi tulevaisuudeksi”, OMVF:n taiteellinen johtaja Joel Karppanen sanoo. Festivaalin visuaalisen ilmeen ja parhaille musiikkivideoille jaettavat Pumpeli-palkinnot on suunnitellut taiteilija Toivo Heinimäki. Ensimmäiset ohjelmanumerot julkaistaan toukokuussa.

Ilmoittautuminen OMVF:n 33. Kotimaiseen kilpailuun on avattu osoitteessa filmfreeway.com/omvf! Kilpailuun voivat osallistua suomalaisten tai Suomessa asuvien ohjaajien musiikkivideot, joita ei ole aiemmin esitetty festivaaleilla. Tekijät voivat osallistua myös ulkomaisille artisteille tekemillään videoilla. Sama video voi osallistua sekä kotimaiseen että eurooppalaiseen kilpailuun, mutta ilmoittautuminen täytyy tehdä molempiin erikseen. Parhaan videon pääpalkinto on 3001 € lahjakortti Kinos Rentalsille. Lisäksi kilpailussa palkitaan paras jälkituotanto, kuvaus, tuore tekijä yleisön suosikki sekä neljä kunniamainittua. Parhaan jälkituotannon, kuvauksen ja tuoreen tekijän palkinnot tarjoaa Valo-/Kamerafirma, Toast ja Valco. Ilmoittautuminen on ilmaista 29. toukokuuta saakka, jonka jälkeen extended deadline on auki 8. kesäkuuta asti 10 € ilmoittautumismaksulla. Music videos directed by Finnish directors or directors residing in Finland are eligible for the competition, provided they have not been previously screened at the festival. Creators may also submit videos made for international artists. The same video may be entered into both the Finnish and the European competitions, but separate submissions must be made for each. The main prize for Best Music Video is a 3001 € gift card for Kinos Rentals. In addition, awards will be given for Best Post-Production, Best Cinematography, Best New Director, the Audience Award, and four honorary mentions. The prizes for Best Post-Production, Best Cinematography and Best New Director are sponsored by Valo-/Kamerafirma, Toast and Valco. Submission is free until 29 May, after which the extended deadline with a 10 euro submission fee is 8th of June.

Greetings from Berlin! Yesterday we visited the Nordic Embassies for the Finnish Embassy’s “Ernsthaft glücklich. Seriously Finnish.” exhibition, where our executive director Juhani Oivo presented a curation of happiness-themed music videos for a packed audience. It was an honor and pleasure to show a wide variety of depictions of happiness in Finnish music videos for the numerous audience and amazing to hear all the warm comments after the screening. Thank you to the embassy for the invitation, and opportunity to promote our first ever European music video competion, open for submissions until June 8 at filmfreeway.com/OMVF! Tomorrow we continue on to the fantastic @babylonberlin movie theatre in Kreuzberg, where we present a double-billing of the cult documentary Sähkö (1995) directed by Jimi Tenor, as well as one hour of rare Finnish music videos. 🟦 Simon Fisher Turner & Niko Hallikainen perform Derek Jarman’s Blue at OMVF 🟦 The opening night of the Oulu Music Video Festival on August 27 presents something genuinely rare: a live performance of Blue (1993), Derek Jarman’s final film and one of the defining works of 20th-century British art and queer cinema. The film’s legendary composer Simon Fisher Turner travels from London to perform a newly updated score. Alongside him, Niko Hallikainen — one of the most distinctive voices in Finnish performance poetry and literature — delivers Jarman’s intimate monologue live. Together, the immersive soundscape and spoken word meet the film’s iconic, unwavering field of International Klein Blue. A hypnotic meditation on AIDS, mortality, and love, Blue is unlike any other film. There are no cuts, no camera movement — only the color blue. Moving between the mundane and the infinite, the film pulls the viewer into a trance that both overwhelms and purifies. Turner has performed Blue in various configurations at Tate Modern, the Pinault Collection, and the Austrian Film Museum in Vienna. The OMVF presentation marks its Finnish and Nordic premiere.
