We’re honored to recognize Laura Olmos as this year’s recipient of the Tom Palizzi Community Champion Award.
After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s at age 40, Laura turned her experience into action—founding Parkinson Laredo and dedicating more than a decade to supporting, educating, and empowering her community. Today, she continues that impact as an Ambassador for the Davis Phinney Foundation and a Parkinson’s Ambassador for WPC2026, helping connect Spanish-speaking communities with resources, education, and support.
Laura will be presented with this award in just two days at this year's opening ceremony for Tour de Victory.
This award honors Tom Palizzi, the founding ride director of Tour de Victory and Davis Phinney Foundation Ambassador, celebrates individuals who lead with compassion, foster community, and believe deeply in helping people with Parkinson’s live well today. Laura reflects that spirit through her years of advocacy and community leadership.

Every dollar raised by Team DPF helps power programs that make living well with Parkinson’s possible—including our Ambassador Program. 💙
Our Ambassadors are people living with Parkinson’s, care partners, and advocates who help bring connection, encouragement, and trusted resources to communities across the country. Through events, outreach, education, and personal storytelling, they help others feel seen, supported, and empowered.
When you fundraise with Team DPF, you’re helping us equip ambassadors with the tools and resources they need to continue making an impact every day.
Because no one should navigate Parkinson’s alone.

As participants came and went, we had the chance to talk about our programs, upcoming events, and ways to get involved. Opportunities like this help us continue building connections and expanding support for those living with Parkinson’s.

Mayor Lowery and Council President Andrew Harris of Florissant, Missouri recently presented Karen Frank, a Davis Phinney Foundation Ambassador, with a proclamation recognizing April 2026 as Parkinson’s Awareness Month—shining a light on a disease that affects nearly one million people in the U.S., with close to 90,000 new diagnoses each year.
Support from communities like Florissant drives real impact. Through Pedal in Place at the Race™, more than $135,000 has been raised for the Davis Phinney Foundation to support people living with Parkinson’s and help them live well today.
Let’s finish Parkinson’s Awareness Month strong—because awareness, action, and community support make a real difference.
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we’re feeling incredibly grateful for all of our volunteers!
Because of our amazing community, in 2026 so far:
63 care packages were mailed 📦
1,165 letters were sent 💌
100+ volunteers showed up to support 🙌
28 hours were dedicated at HQ ⏳
Every hour, every note, every act of kindness helps people with Parkinson’s live well today. Thank you for being the heart behind this mission. We couldn’t do it without you.
