Any day we got to run with Gabe Botero Jr was a great one. Gaboâs energy was infectious; every time he stepped onto the track, you could feel him elevating the spirits of everyone around him. The coldest winter days became sunny and warm; the brutally hot summer sessions became more palatable when he was around, spurring us all forward. Gaboâs calming presence also came with the understanding that he would hold himself and others accountable throughout the session. When subbing in to helm sexy pace, he diligently kept the time and encouraged others to match his pace, pushing them forward under his steady leadership. Sure, that sometimes included gentle, loving badgering of those he knew could keep up and push themselves forward, but it was done from a place of love and admiration. An iron sharpens iron mentality we should all aspire towards.Â
He lit up any place he entered, typically announcing himself with a joyous holler and plenty of handshakes and hugs for those around him. Gabo was, in so many ways, the heart and soul of Team After One, not unlike Josh Hart on his beloved New York Knicks. Gaboâs presence was one of hard work, but done with a smile. That mentality is what made him such a beloved figure in our space and others. Itâs no surprise that his love of running and his natural knack for leadership eventually led him to take on an active leadership role with CafĂŠcito y Perreo Run Club as that crewâs first capi.Â
Gaboâs presence will be extraordinarily missed. Each time we step onto the track, weâll be lesser for it without him there alongside us. But the extent to which our lives are richer for having run alongside him and known him is unquantifiable.
Weâll see you at the finish line, brother.

GENTLE LIVES TELL NO STORIES đ´
LALV26 is wrapped, but the desert doesnât just leave you. It sits in your bones. In the fatigue that hasnât fully cleared, in the quiet moments where it all comes rushing back. The kind of experience that marks you physically, mentally and stays with you.
Team After One went through it. The highs, the lows, the moments that ask you to fold and they didnât. They answered. Together. What came out of that isnât surface-level. Itâs a family. A bond built under pressure, and the kind that doesnât break.

Last Sunday, @teamafterone made it to Las Vegas: 340 miles later, finishing beneath the Las Vegas sign in 52:29. Minimal sleep, constant movement, calories in wherever they could⌠and the Amazfit Ultra 2 moving hand to hand like a baton the entire way.
An effort like that speaks for itself.
Vegas, until next time.
