One of many wonderful projects Art+ are running is the brand-new festive cinema club. Yesterday, they held their first screening where our elves welcomed some young patients to a viewing of Home Alone. Just £17 can fund an arts or music workshop for a child. These workshops give patients a chance to try new things and experience joyful or calming moments during what can be difficult times. It’s #worldbookday and this year we’ve been to the circus! 🎪 To celebrate the wonder and amazement that books can provide, patients and families at Sheffield Children’s have been getting involved in some big top fun taking place across the Trust.   First, we welcomed two incredible performers to Sheffield Children’s Hospital today - circus skills performer @poppins_presents , and comedy performer @stan.skinny , who transformed into The World’s Strongest Man. Both Poppy and Stan visited children on the wards and delivered interactive performances to entertain, delight and amuse.   Those at the Becton Centre for Children and Young People and Chapel House were also able to get in on the act, taking part in some spectacular circus skills sessions. They were able to try their hand at a number of circus-themed activities, including juggling!   The events were organised by The Children’s Hospital Charity’s @team.artplus and @bectonschool , who deliver specialist education to children and young people across three different sites at Sheffield Children’s. They were inspired to bring the circus to life after visiting the Circus and Fairground Archive at The University of Sheffield. The university even kindly loaned some vintage posters and books to support today’s celebrations. Art+ is The Children’s Hospital Charity’s arts programme, and part of their work is to enhance the experience of patients and support their wellbeing through a programme of engagement activities. This is made possible thanks to charitable donations, so thank you for helping to bring the big top to Sheffield Children’s.

It's been a creative Christmas season at @sheffieldchildrens thanks to @thechildrenshospitalcharity 's arts programme, @team.artplus !🎄💙 Thanks to generous donations Art+ delivers a programme of engagement activities all year round to support wellbeing for patients, families, and staff at Sheffield Children's. The festive season is no different, and the Art+ team worked with professional artists and musicians to help bring magical moments throughout December. This video is just a snapshot of the joy and festive fun from our creative workshops. We've enjoyed breakdancing Santas (@rationale_arts ), Christmas circus skills (@poppins_presents ), ukelele playing (@livemusicnowuk ), staff singing (@livmuir_uk ), and accessible sing-a-longs (@rosiehoodfolk ). With visits from Victorian pickpockets (@stan.skinny ) and puppet Santa and his reindeer (@littleangeltheatre ), we saw a little bit of naughty and a little bit of nice. We made a Christmas single (@tracks_uk ), and decked the halls (@citizensofstitch ), while @concerteenies bought music to some of our smallest visitors. Our staff festive wreathmaking was back, to help staff do something different during the busy season (@foxfarmflowersuk ). We are so grateful to all our professional artists and musicians for helping to distract and entertain our patients, families, and staff in what can be challenging times. It’s Halloween at Sheffield Children’s! 🎃 To celebrate the spooky season, we were joined by the Sanderson Sisters from the classic film Hocus Pocus. The witches delighted patients and parents and spread some Halloween magic. @thechildrenshospitalcharity ‘s arts programme, @team.artplus , has collaborated with events company @villagegreenevents , to bring the magic of this season to the bedsides of our children and young people. Visiting wards across Sheffield Children’s Hospital, the witches treated patients, families and staff to a spellbinding performance. We’re so grateful for this spookily spectacular visit. Get ready for Christmas with this year’s @petemckee cards! 💙🎄 Pete is a patron of the Charity’s arts programme @team.artplus , and each year designs a one-of-a-kind Christmas card to help raise vital funds. 100% of the profits from the cards support Art+ to bring imaginative design and uplifting art to help everyone who visits Sheffield Children’s. To help raise as much money as possible for the Charity the wonderful team from @asapprint have printed the cards free of charge for the second year in a row. This year’s design includes the iconic Frank and is the perfect way to spread some festive cheer! The Charity are so grateful to Pete and ASAP digital for their continued support. Our very own version of Tramlines Fringe is at Sheffield Children’s! Music is echoing through our Hospital thanks to the @team.artplus team, @thechildrenshospitalcharity arts programme, who have organised our very own mini festival. Music will be brought to children, young people and families via the talented @tracks_uk team, an organisation dedicated to helping young people access performing opportunities. We’ll be spanning indie, hip-hop and soul so there really will be something for everyone. How lucky are we! 🎶😁💙 #Sheffield #Tramlines #tramlinesfestival #tramlinesfringe

We want to say a huge thanks to Penistone Grammar School and @mindsaheadcic for their support in improving the environment for our patients! 💙💛 Their fundraising has helped @team.artplus , the Charity’s arts programme, shape spaces in Sheffield Children’s with mental health care in mind. Art+ led workshops with children and young people to help develop a considered design of the environment. This has helped create warm, nurturing spaces supporting mental health at Sheffield Children’s.

Happy World Art Day! Our surroundings have a powerful effect on how we feel, and that’s especially important in a hospital, where the environment can influence the wellbeing and comfort of our patients, visitors and staff. Through Art+, our charitys’ art’s program, we use imaginative design and uplifting art to help all who visit Sheffield Children’s Hospital feel at ease, whether staying long-term or just a few hours. This spans transforming unfamiliar clinical settings into either calming or spirit-raising spaces and engaging both patients and staff in creative activities that distract from anxiety, soften overwhelm and boost positivity. Art+ work with forward-thinking artists, designers, architects and brands who share our vision to spread feel-good spirit throughout the wards, spaces and treatment rooms of Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
