Had a great time last night meeting up and chatting with @vincent.lyn.50@cafe.concerto A lot of people associate both Vincent and I with films but our meeting was to discuss the charities we both run.
Vincent's charity does super important work by providing aid to children in war torn countries.
My charity utilises meditation and the arts to treat depression anxiety and ptsd. We also make the arts accessible for people with disabilities and do a lot of work in Children’s hospitals.
Doing film is great but nothing beats helping people if you have the means to do so, no matter how big or small ❤️

Had such a great time yesterday delivering a talk at Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust. Big shout out to Vignesh Murali for putting on such a great event celebrating innovations by people of colour. The audience really resonated with hearing how the combination of Kung fu and Hip-Hop influenced the ground breaking work that my charity Rationale Arts does.

We teach breakin to people with visual impairment as a means of injury prevention and spatial awareness
ACTs OF CREATIVITY
We treat depression anxiety and PTSD through combing Hip-Hop and meditation techniques.
HIP-HOP REHABILITATION
We work in children's hospitals using Hip-Hop dance techniques to help patients regain movement whilst living with conditions such as traumatic brain injury, leukemia, brittle bone disease etc
BEDSIDE BEATBOXING
We go into hospitals and teach beatboxing as a means of distress tolerance and emotional regulation (beatboxing is essentially the same as meditation as they are both forms of controlled breathing).

Shining a light on my student Chris Serebour. Chris contacted me a few years ago and wanted to take part in my accessible dance classes for blind and partially sighted people. The catch was he lived in Italy, so we embarked on a journey of teaching him hip-hop dance and breakin online. He quickly grasped the skills I had taught him and combined them with his already existing dance movement repertoire.
Since then Chris has featured in Italian television, auditioned for dance schools and has done fashion shows. Most recently he was invited to the UK to be in a fashion show and he stopped by to meet up with me. It was out first time we had met in person after many years of doing classes online and so of course I got him in the studio and put him through his paces in a one on one dance class (we also did some fight choreography). It was great to meet him in person and to see how his skills have developed. Chris is an incredible dancer and human being and although I am his teacher he inspires me every day.

For 8 weeks we worked with @greentopcircus 🎪 Circus to prepare a parade ( July 10, 2024). For the project I was given apprentices and they helped co-create these videos. They learned about camera techniques, lighting, photography and different angles.
Background story 🐘:
The young people have been practicing their stiltwalking. Here is a film we co-created with them and you can see their process of not only learning new skills but sharing them with peers. At one point we had 10 kids on stilts.

In addition to filming and documenting the process and upskilling our young Roma kids, we are also supporting the young people to create their own dances💃 🕺. They have chosen 4 very different styles and we have been rehearsing for the last few weeks.
