My 22nd burn complete. This is a pic of the diehards from our new camp riding out on a final sunset ride yesterday after we reached a major strike milestone. Don't believe the headlines. We had a blast. Yes, navigating the elements was challenging and it ruined many plans, but it brought us together and birthed magic we could not have planned for. My favorite moment of the the burn was during our camp opening where we were going through our 7 camp values. As we got to "Make New Friends - we welcome new people like old friends,' the sky opened up with intense rain, cutting our opening short. Soon, we had a fire going in the middle of our stretch tent, and people from neighboring camps that were caught out working on an art project with their daytime clothes on who were drenched and cold start finding their way to us. Eventually, every square inch of our spaces was taken up. We brought out a bucket of warm clothes and a huge stack of blankets we had made for the camp. Then we started making really amazing pizza for everyone. THen a neighboring camp brough over truly remarkable homemade cheesecake. People were beyond thankful that they got to ride out the storm in style and warmth with friends old and new. It was such a sweet vibe. One of the great things about rain on the playa is that it immediately removes FOMO. Everyone is basically wherever they are. So people drop in a bit more. It felt sooooo good to be able to be part of providing such a great experience to people at such a perfect moment when what we had to give met the peak of a need. It was such an honor to be part of building a new camp with a such a magical group of people.

This went so well a few weeks ago that we decided to do it again. I’ll be back to offer a De-Othering experience before Ecstatic Dance SF this Sunday. Turns out that a short powerful practice that gives us a potent glimpse beyond our separateness helps unlock the somatic safety and wisdom of the group. And prior to this De-othering exercise, Candice and Gabriel will lead Blindfolded Contact. The combo of these two practices I have found to be uniquely potent for dissolving the judgement and fear that can interrupt our conductivity to the music’s ability to fully flow through us. The music can’t do its work effectively if we are blocked up with self or other judgement. Come early to prep your heart to fully receive the phenomenal musicians.

This picture is interesting to me because of what was going on for me in the 20 minutes before it was taken. I was hosting a 350-person transformative gathering. I was feeling really exhausted, presumably from allergies that are not responding to medication, and I was judging myself for that for some bizarre reason, as if it was my fault I wasn't feeling well. I was so disappointed because I really wanted to feel active and social and participating in the activities and workshops I had worked hard all year to bring together. But I just didn't have it in me. So I sat down in this chair that was facing a movement workshop led by @b_moving . After few mins of feeling defeated, I found myself being lit up by what I was witnessing from the groups of people being so free and creative in their movements with each other. To call it dancing would likely reduce it something you already know in your mind. To see so many groups of people I love engaging with such unbridled joy and uninhibited trust with each other made me feel extraordinary compersion for their experience even though I couldn't participate in that moment. And knowing that I played some small role in making that possible gave me a sense of pride. A sense of gentle pride that reminded me of a moment once when my dad had a bouncy house with a waterslide put up in his backyard for his grandkids on a summer day. He was standing far back from it with a glass of wine in his hand just taking it all in with a gentle smile. He looked over to me and said "Son, it just doesn't get better than this." Even though I don't have kids or grandkids, in the moment just before this photo was taken, I got to feel something akin to what I image he was feeling in that moment. photo by @alinamakeiphotography

Next step in my mold/move out saga is finding a place to store furniture and art while I’m in between places. Prefer that they can be somewhere where they can be used. Or would rather pay a friend for storage than a storage facility. East bay or Marin preferred. Got some really cool art, couches and bed. Dm if you know of a great solution. Thank you!!

Well, I need to move out of my home quickly because of major long term leak and mold requiring a total renovation. Landlord is being great and very generous with the relocation fee, etc. But me and the kitties need a new temporary home starting on 1/28 for 1-2 months. I’ve got a plan for a new community home but that won’t happen until April or May and it’s still in the forming phases. I’m looking at Airbnb’s right now. But thought id throw it out to my friends if you know of anything decent in the Bay Area (Berkeley, El Cerrito preferred). Open to living with others. Cats won’t do well with other pets. Need to be cool with me covering your upholstered furniture to protect it from scratches or cool with it being scratched. I’ll cover the cost of a bi-weekly professional cleaner, too. Max budget is $3400 per month but ideally way less than that. Pls dm.
