“An ode to the filmmaker” - this was kind of an abandoned edit @Eric_crosland @taylorfreesolo @renan_ozturk @kael.vb and I worked on a few years ago with original music by @lgnnelson . We were on the fence about posting it since we aren’t necessarily religious but loved the homage to craft and how that related to all the hard working crew we had experienced in our filmmaking adventures. It was inspired by the Paul Harvey’s “So God Made A Farmer” 1970’s speech (also made into a Super Bowl RAM commercial) that paid tribute the hardworking people who grow our food… and passing something enduring down to the next generation. At any rate, putting it here before it dies on the @expedition.studios servers. Super fun to look back on all the dedicated teams that bled and laughed and cried to make everything possible.

June thru September 1985 right before I was born, Mom (Kelly) spent 4 months of her pregnancy alone in the Pinyon Peak lookout tower in the Salmon-Challis National Forest of Idaho. Just she and unborn me, and Harley the big black dog. Halfway thru the summer my dad and his friends, helitech wildland firefighters that summer, gave her a kitten which she named PK (Pinyon Kitty). They delivered her food by helicopter once every few weeks. Her job was to scan the landscape day and night, especially if she heard thunder, and look for smoke. No wifi, no phones, no television. Just a baby in her belly, wood to chop, and plenty of windy mountain air. I asked her recently if she got lonely, and her response was, sure, but she really enjoyed the long naps. "And did you get scared?" "No, never. Not out there, there were no humans to harm me and the mountains were my friends." 40 years later and the most peaceful feeling for me in the world is this very experience. Watching the night sky, totally alone, in howling wind, with a big black dog (@baloointhewild ). #happymothersday

@aidanle and I don’t make plans. We show up in each others lives usually on a last minute whim, after a 7 hour drive through the night, sometimes with tears in our eyes, always there for each other as family. She came to Colorado last week so we could honor her fur baby Norman (@parkcitynorm ) who passed unexpectedly. As we merged his ashes with the ashes of our burnt letters, we talked about how dogs are not individual souls but infinite-continuum spectrum souls that cycle forever through multiple puppy forms, but never leave us. Thank you Norman for your forever joy. Thank you Cowboy (new puppy, photo 1!) for carrying Norm’s spirit. Thank you cold mountain water for taking him, and for making us feel alive 🌸 @baloointhewild #sonyartisan

My dad was pretty young when he had me, I can’t imagine the ohh-shit feeling there must have been. But he has been there for me every step. From this early Halloween where he made me a “dead cow” costume and I went door to door, laying on my back with my feet in the air, to the recent Scotland Moto trip we took, him leading the way since tight road corners are scary and it rained the whole time. I feel super lucky to have a Dad in my life who got to walk me to the alter (after a shot of tequila in the parking lot), teach me how to honor and let free our loved ones who pass, and even be willing to learn something new from your kid. jewelry to me is more like a tattoo than something I change daily. aside from my stone necklace the only other piece that’s come into my life that I wear daily has been from a dear soul Jule @gnosis.studios , who handcrafts bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces from recycled silver and sustainability sourced stones. The vibration of every particle of my being purrs with gratitude when we are together. After a day apart, the purrs turn to songs, the way loves finds a way to turn our longing into a melody. What I enjoy most tho is just being nuzzled up close, whenever I can be, for as long as we get to in this one precious life.
