Close To Home | Trailer TW: child sexual abuse A short film coming soon for @thesurvivorstrustuk charity, raising awareness of the use of Al in child sexual abuse and how it can be used as leverage to transfer online abuse into real life harm. I'm so thankful to have been trusted to write and direct this as my first narrative short(!), and immensely grateful to everyone who gave their time, craft, resources and talent to make this film. This story feels even more integral at a time when there is a lot of focus on famous and celebrity perpetrators: it's too easy to forget about the real people whose lives they've affected and we can become complacent in believing that these are isolated incidents of evil. To return to filmmaking with something so personal, and for that to be ok, means so much. I didn’t anticipate how it would feel to watch mine and @nnnaange ’s relationship on such a huge screen, with friends and strangers; vulnerable, open, exposed. Thank you to my friends that came to support, hold hands and cry with me, all these people who never knew my mum but walk alongside my grief and love as I find new ways to be, in her absence. Programmed by Akinna Aquino: From fleeting encounters and suspended gestures to long-distance devotion and unspoken desire, each film finds love in motion, stretched between bodies, places, and memories. Whether it’s in the whispered longing that stretches across seasons, or in voice notes exchanged between lovers apart, romance here is neither static nor certain.
