I love ballet.
My father worked at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center- home of The New York City Ballet- founded by George Balanchine for 33 years. I grew up like Eloise in that theater. I ran around floor to floor, peered into rehearsal halls, wandered into the costume and hair and makeup rooms. Watched the dancers warm up in the wings, then marveled at how they lit up the stage, telling stories with their bodies. I took my own dance classes at that theater on Saturdays with @nationaldanceinstitute under Jacques d’Amboise, a former NYC Ballet star principle dancer that found dance (and the arts) so important he brought it into the NYC public schools. Art requires you drop your ego, it requires immense discipline, dedication, and empathy. I have nothing but major respect for dancers and all artists. As we all should.
