THE LAST ELECTION AND OTHER LOVE STORIES EXCLUSIVE SCREENING AT THE PEOPLE’S FORUM! March 7, 2025 6:30PM THE PEOPLE’S FORUM 320 W. 37th STREET New York NY 10018 TALKBACK WITH THE FILM DIRECTOR MIGUEL SILVEIRA in conversation with members of the Defend Democracy in Brazil Committee RSVP at (see link in bio) THE LAST ELECTION (2021) is a documentary, a podcast, and a flash ethnography about the United States on election day 2020. A snapshot of a collapsing democracy, when some thought it could still prevail. The semi-scripted framing story follows amateur podcaster Khadim Diop in the creation of his podcast titled “The Last Election”. As finalists in a podcast competition, Khadim and his creative partner, Xisko Monroe record interviews and observations from the streets of Times Square from sunrise November 3, 2020, to sunrise November 4, 2020. Conflict arises between the podcasters when Xisko’s sister shows up to help and Khadim’s personal political choices are challenged. The film is a portrait of real people filmed in the middle of the pandemic, only a few blocks from The People’s Forum, at a time and place in the USA that both confirmed and denied the prevailing notion that America was and still is a divided nation. It shows strong disagreements between Trump supporters and Biden voters, as well as dissidents from either choice both young and old, all in the same block. Featuring a special participation of the Defend Democracy in Brazil Committee members in one of their street actions. Despite all disagreements, Khadim’s podcast projects a message of measured but much-needed optimism and love, during a global pandemic, political turmoil, and ecological disaster. RUNNING TIME: 72 minutes Starring Khadim Diop, Coco Monroe and Kimber Monroe Directed by Miguel Silveira Written & produced by Miguel Silveira & Missy Hernandez Cinematography by Jano Mejia Edited by Aron Romanoff Music by Francis Rodriguez Documentary footage by Emil Benjamin Event organized by Syncretic Pleasures @syncretic_pleasures with support from the Defend Democracy in Brazil Committee (DDB-NY), Hurricane & Yucca, and The People’s Forum

I will be part of this reading tonight, with over 30 theater artists on the International day of solidarity with Palestine.. Created by @ashtartheatre , organized in NY by @allimitecollective Nov 29th, 7:30pm Location: Be Electric Studios, Studio 10 1028 Grand Street, Brooklyn, New York online live on Zoom too. RSVP at bit.ly/Gazamonologues Please read: Due to the horrific war taking place in Gaza, Ashtar Theatre launches an urgent request to all its friends and theater makers around the world to publicly read or perform The Gaza Monologues on November 29th, 2023; The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People - a significant day for those who value justice, equality, and freedom for the Palestinian people. The Gaza Monologues are testimonies written by ASHTAR youth in 2010, after the first war on the Gaza Strip. Tragically, these Monologues are still accurate today. They are highlighting the horrors, hopes and resilience of the courageous Gazans to a wider audience, bringing out the voices of children and people in Gaza. Al Límite Collective returned from Palestine in October 2023 after participating in the Feminist Theatre Festival at The Freedom Theatre in Jenin Camp, where we devised a piece with 4 Palestinian actors about the unifying struggle of women’s rights movements around the world. We stand in solidarity now and always with anyone experiencing oppression under a brutal regime. This is also a fundraiser for ASHTAR Theatre's mental health resources in the West Bank: ASHTAR Theatre is launching an intervention in the West Bank, Palestine, providing immediate relief to express and mitigate the traumatic impact of the current war on Gaza. In parthership with Palestinian psychologists, ASHTAR will deliver psycho-social interventions for children, youth and adults using theatre and art as a medium for trauma release in schools & youth centres. @THIAGOSZMRECSANYI @CLOAKFORDARWIN @JNIERODZINSKI AND MORE AT @CONTEXTSPACEBK THIS FRIDAY! 948 3rd Avenue  Brooklyn, NY 11232 (Entrance on 36 th St.) contextspace.org IG @contextspacebk [email protected] Open Saturdays 1-5, by appointment, and at random. Context is an artist-run gallery and publishing platform that provides artists with a solo exhibition, catalog, and essay to contextualize their practice. SUBMERGING: CONTEXT MEMBER GROUP SHOW OCTOBER 13th / 6 - 9 pm - OCTOBER 14th / 12 - 5 pm CONTEXT is proud to join Sunset Park Open Studios and present Submerging, a group exhibition of recent artwork by CONTEXT members Amanda Bauer, Gocha Tsinadze, Joshua Nierodzinski, Caleb Nussear, and Thiago Szmrecsanyi. The title of this exhibition began as playful riff on the term “emerging artist”. The entry- level career stage for artists is followed by Mid-Career and then Established. To advance through these levels requires acceptance within the capitalist art market which means sales, awards, and exhibition history. All with the promise of financial wealth and class mobility. We all know that very few artists live solely from their artwork. Even less reach icon status. And yet, so often the advice of those established artists when asked how they achieved that status is to immerse into one’s practice and life as opposed to seeking recognition. So, don’t aim to emerge. Submerge. What started as a response to emergence has taken on deeper meaning in the past few weeks. Not only because of the recent flooding in New York but because we, the members of CONTEXT, are losing our gallery space. We are actively searching for a new site and, with any luck, will resurface soon.
