I’m honored to be joining the prestigious legacy of @swstudioprogram and work beside this incredible cohort. Congratulations to everyone! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program is pleased to announce the 2026-2027 cohort of incoming resident artists. From a national pool of nearly 2,000 applicants, seventeen artists have been awarded year-long, rent-free studio spaces in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Residents are chosen annually by a jury of distinguished contemporary artists. The recipients of the 2026-2027 SWSP residency are: Alisa Sikelianos-Carter, Anne Gilman, Beverly Fishman, David Shrobe, Davis Arney, E.E. Ikeler, Emily Janowick, Isaiah Davis, Jonathan Sanchez Noa, Khalif Tahir Thompson, Lee Maxey, Louis Block, Madjeen Isaac, Mariel Rolwing Montes, Olivia Jia, Satpreet Kahlon, and Takuji Hamanaka Studio portrait by, Matt Grubb.

Thanks everyone for your support. I cannot be comfortably in my home - we’ve come full circle to how this started in 2013 of me asking my landlord” please fix it it is hurting me “ that’s basically it- unable to be comfortably in my home - one dies not get used to it , one cannot just ignore it , one cannot get zen with it - noise & vibrations are a health hazard and the body’s ability to tolerate it diminishes. This is not a mental disability but certainly causes anxiety as does the extended circumstances created by the “war of attrition “ where if I cannot be in my home I cannot work ongoing for over a decade . Sending a message to my community to see where /who would create an artist residency for me that would serve as a kind of reparations for the lost time and damage to myself and my career . I m most certainly not the deadbeat tenant my landlord & their attorney are working hard to allege I am . I have a Guggenheim fellowship , a NYFA fellowship , my work is in numerous collections . Im in court 100% because of what the landlord did and didn’t do. That I have to spend my time and energy running in the wake of the endless garbage thsts been dumped into my path is part of a known systemic problem - thanks again to all who have contributed to my gofundme https://gofund.me/1217ec871 have bought my work and have not abandoned me . I’ m switching gears too & seeking that person or entity that knows artist residencies e it’s for a reason and further there is no municiplal agency that will do this . And noise & vibrations - although I had plenty of time to try - you do not “get used to it “ you cannot ignore it” you cannot “ get zen with it “ . Imagine the idling truck that wakes you up and is so annoying - now imagine it goes on in perpetuity!! Developing a sensitivity to something due to years of asking the landlord “ please fix this it is hurting me and I cannot work “- the equivalent of an occupational hazard - for which I’m not getting paid for and for which there is no appropriate enforcement with regards to the damage and distress it causes. PS yes I also had a collapsed ceiling abd there is a stack of violations. Thank you .

☔️ April seems like it’s just waiting for May (which is the best month) but it was packed. We started in NY, then Chicago, San Francisco 🦭 and back to NYC. One painting was held up in the Middle East due to the war in Iran but made it safely to NYC. Hoping for peace in May. ☔️

Don Perlis ⭐️Painter. Studio visit. I got to visit Don’s studio that he was awarded by Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program, during Dumbo Open Studios this past weekend ( 4.19.26) @whitehotmagazine critic Donald Kuspit said: “Perlis is the Pieter Bruegel of our times. Bruegel’s works were sharpe or sarcastic and provocative; socially critical and ruthlessly realistic.” @donperlispainter 📽️ @fuchsprojects @swstudioprogram @art_dumbo @dumbo_brooklyn #dumboopenstudios #donperlis #sharpewalentas #rafaelfuchs #fuchsprojects
