I’m thrilled to have my solo exhibition ‘Feathered Friends’ installed in Bandon Library for the month of November. This exhibition is a wider bird conservation project depicting the Irish birds that are endangered and red listed. Many bird populations in Ireland are in decline with 54 Irish species on the Red list with a further decline of 6 waders joining the Red list due to habitat loss, environmental and climate factors. This body of work endeavor’s to foster a deeper connection with nature and raise awareness and appreciation for these vulnerable birds and their habitats. I would like to thank Bandon library for their support and facilitation of the exhibition #bandonlibrary. @corkcountycouncil @corkcountyarts I would be delighted if you could drop into the library to see these beautiful birds which are part of our Irish natural heritage!

Returning from the gorgeous Andalusia I miss its blue skies full of whistling Swifts performing their aerial patterns 🙏 The beautiful city of Estepona is a real haven for Swifts! My holiday read was the perfect book, ‘One Midsummer’s Day, Swifts & the Story of Life on Earth’ by Mark Cocker an ornithological writer. A book which gave me a greater appreciation & understanding of swifts & the interconnectedness of all living things. Marbella near by hosts various festivals over the summer & we were very lucky to attend the summer fair that celebrates the city’s patron saint, San Bernabé. It was a great way to experience the traditional dance, food & music!

I’m delighted to have got out to do some maintenance on my Swift mural for heritage week which can be seen on the wall of the Gus Healy pool in Ballinlough. If you’re free at the weekend take a walk in the beautiful Ballinlough community garden which is blooming at this time of year @ballinloughra and feast your eyes on this magical bird and swiftlets in the mural. This mural was a collaboration with BirdWatch, Cork Branch funded by the Creative Communities grant scheme from Cork City Council through Create Ireland. Swifts are a widespread summer visitor to Ireland that usually breed in urban areas but they are now declining in number and need our help. We need to install nest boxes to provide them with permanent homes where they can rear their young in safety. Thank you to @birdwatchireland , Cork Branch, @corkcitycouncil , @ballinloughra and @samplestudios for their support.

It was a real privilege to meet Seán Ronayne, Ornithologist & wildlife sound recordist in Tory Top Library on Wednesday morning! His fascinating talk about his journey to record the call of every bird species in Ireland was very inspiring and I’m so looking forward to watching this documentary this Sunday. 🪶🎶✨ BIRDSONG, Sunday at 6.30pm | @rteplayer | #birdsong

The Swifts are back! It makes me so happy to hear their song of Summer & see them soaring over Cork City! We wait in anticipation to see the impact of Swift boxes installed by BirdWatch, Greenspacecork3 and Swift Conservation Ireland. Thank you for your great work 👏👏 We hope this initiative that provides Swifts with long term nesting sites for breeding will help recover their population in Ireland 💚 The next step is to standardise the corporation of swift bricks and boxes into new builds🙏🙏 @birdwatchireland @greenspacescork3 @corkcitycouncil #birdwatchireland #swiftconservationireland

The launch by the Lord Mayor Kieran McCarthy of the ‘Swift Conservation Mural’ on the Gus Healy pool in Ballinlough made for a very memorable occasion! I was overwhelmed with the huge attendance from the local schools, and Kieran Dwane from Birdwatch, Cork Branch engaged us all with his knowledge of Swifts. A big thank you to the Lord Mayor and it was wonderful to meet the children and the local community who came out to celebrate the mural reveal, including the Ballinlough residents association with Claire O’Driscoll @ballinloughra and Louise Tangeny @louisetangney from the arts council. The project was made possible thankfully, with funding from Create Ireland through Cork City Council. I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for all their support to create this mural including the very helpful Aoibhie McCarthy @samplestudios The mural and reveal was documented by the very talented photographer Clare Keogh who is an absolute pleasure to work with! @clareflash #corkcitycouncil #birdwatchireland #swiftconservation #swifts #createireland #murals

I’m so happy to announce the installation of the Swift Conservation Mural for BirdWatch, Cork Branch and the Ballinlough Residents Association at the Gus Healy pool in Ballinlough. The mural was supported by Creative Ireland funding through Cork City Council, for which we are very thankful. This project was a labour of love for the protection of swifts and is surrounded by nature in the Ballinlough Community garden and the Japanese garden where BirdWatch have installed Swift boxes on the trees! Come out to have a look and hopefully feel inspired! Thank you to @samplestudios @aoibhiemccarthy for the support, @birdwatchireland , @dwanekieran and @Clare O’Driscoll @ballinloughra #creativeireland #corkcitycouncil #birdwatchireland #ballinloughra

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank Kieran Dwane of BirdWatch, Cork Branch for his fantastic presentation for Swift Conservation on Culture night! And the Ballinlough residents association for organising the event, and the residents for their support and participation in the Art workshop to create their own Swifts! The Swift Conservation project is supported by the Creative Ireland Programme, an all-of-government five-year initiative, from 2023 to 2027, which places creativity at the centre of public policy.
