Exploring duality, friendship, family and feasting, Vivian and Esyllt explored their individual connection to Swansea as either their chosen or birth home at Swansea Performance Weekend. Gathering around a portable wooden trolley, they munched their way around the Glynn Vivian honouring the artwork and squirty cream as they passed it. @vrossmith @esylltesylit

The performance took place within @lindersterling ’s exhibition @glynnvivian , relating particularly to her photomontage process, her iconic meat dress performance and the artists’ shared interest in archetypal figures.

Rhoddir gwobr o hufen sgwyrti i unrhyw un sydd â gwybodaeth am y digwyddiad. 🍦 At 2pm on 22 November 2025, something happened at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea, Glamorgan. During a single hour, marshmallows were seen flying, a tablecloth levitating, girls in Welsh woollen coats gobbling foodstuffs from a foldable wooden trolly, and the theft of a coveted meringue, taken from one of the gallery’s famous glass cabinets. The two ladies responsible can be seen in the above images. Maybe the fact one of them shares their name with the gallery has given them some strange confidence to act in this way. Holly Slingsby @hollyslingsby reworked her performance Too Many Marys as a live collage for the context of @lindersterling ’s exhibition @glynnvivian . Dozens of glossy images of the Virgin Mary were cut out and pinned to the artist’s dress with the help of the audience, to form a multitude of votive offerings. Subverting the institution, @sgor_score performers gathered and disseminated themselves amongst the busy opening night crowd. Team video calls echoed through the halls, chains clattered against the marble staircase and corsets got tighter and tighter. The collective responded to @lindersterling punk aesthetic, calling to the imagery of her photomontages and honouring the nameless characters held within. A huge thank you to everyone who came to Swansea Performance Weekend! Over the coming days we'll be posting photos from each of the live performances, starting with Tanuki’s Beaujolais Bar by @johnwalterstudio Building on Walter’s longstanding interest in hospitality as a relational device for engaging audiences in painting, he presented a new bar for Swansea: Tanuki’s Beaujolais Bar. This resurrected Walter’s jestered persona, celebrating death and rebirth through a series of five archetypes: JESTER, PHOENIX, LAZARUS, CICADA, and TANUKI. Tanuki is a mythological, shapeshifting Japanese racoon dog, seen frequently in ceramic form around Kyoto holding money and drinking sake. Swansea’s fondness for Beaujolais Day was the setting for a playful and surreal spectacle toasting dormancy and revival, rebirth, renewal, change, and trickster transformation.  Thanks to Dafydd Williams @properdaf for these brilliant photos, to @glynnvivian for hosting us and @celfcymruarts for funding this project.
