So exciting to see our Tomorrow Blooms pieces continue the digital rewilding on over 60 screens across China.
The project presents a hypothetical botanical phenomenon where an intelligent network of floral species harmonise in a wondrous superbloom. This synchronised and hyper-natural spectacle forms an optimistic celebration of the resilience and beauty found in diversity and its capacity to propel future evolutionary advances. Each and every flower in the series is a one-of-a-kind bloom created through procedurally generated design techniques.

Huge thanks to @theoutputofficial for making this real

Last July, we’ve received their submission and I directly responded to thank them, and it turned out to also be a good opportunity to catchup after all these years.
I’ve met Belinda and Andrew 6 years ago while I was in NYC (already!!!), thanks to an intro from my former classmate and dear friend @cath.u (freelance art director + UX/UI genius for premium/luxury brands, FYI) — she just said « you’ll be a good match ». I just remember spending a LOT of time chatting about new WebGL stuff in a coffee shop in Brooklyn.
Flying to NYC to make this recording was obviously not an option, therefore I asked them if they’d be keen to record a video of the project to be shared here, and talk through their self-initiated project. A week later, they shared this: I was pretty stunned by the quality and the professionalism they put into it! 🥹

Yet, don’t get used to it this quality, because I definitely won’t be able to keep up with it. So please stay with us for more videos recorded in loud restaurants with leftovers of puddings in the background — all of which are always unprepared, spontaneous and always improvised... okay? 😅🫰

Where nature meets the algorithm.
Superficial Studio invites us into blooming digital worlds where flora mutates, evolves, and surprises as if growing straight from a line of code.
🧬 Their art feels alive. Each creation pulses softly, like a new species taking shape in a virtual ecosystem. Delicate yet futuristic, these animated forms open a quiet space for wonder and reflection.
From petals shaped by pixels to surreal patterns of light, Belinda Chen and Andrew Kupresanin awaken our senses, reminding us that imagination, like nature, is endlessly generative.

New work in our Tomorrow Blooms series.
Tomorrow Blooms: Helix imagines an advanced strand of flora with the ability of rapid genetic adaptation. Capable of spontaneously spawning new evolutionary branches, the ecological anomaly embraces change as it adapts forward through the various floral generations.
The work is created using a generative system where each new flower that blooms takes on traits or characteristics from the previous flower while it evolves and transforms from generation to generation.
Part of our Tomorrow Blooms artwork series exploring a speculative botanical future set in evolutionary hyperdrive. In the context of rapidly changing environmental conditions the works aim to provide serene moments for contemplation about the evolving state of the natural world.

A look into the animation system developed for our Tomorrow Blooms series. The setup acts as a structural backbone adapting to the infinite number of floral variations created by the procedural design system.
