BOOMSlang: Vol. 1 May 15, a night of hip-hop from @superemptync Pink Siifu w/ special NC guests Hailing from Alabama and Ohio but channeling the energy of an alternate dimension, @pinksiifu has been defying easy categorization and commanding attention for over a decade. Whether over foundation-shaking bangers or hazy soul-sampled loops, his singular voice and perspective never seem out of place, nor trapped in a particular time. Only natural for one of the most politically sharp and sonically ambitious acts in hip-hop today. Also, a perfect fit for the first rap headliner in Boom Club history. Earlier this month, Phuzz Phest descended on downtown Winston-Salem for the first time in a decade, and SE contributor @karladaisyjames was there to take it all in. Her impressions? Even after all that time away, organizers hardly missed a beat. More than sound logistical execution and quality music, Phuzz served up what downtown, multi-venue festival should aspire to: a momentary, community-oriented suspension of reality. Threw an accidental block party on a Tuesday night this week, and made it 2-for-2 on successful launch parties for Issue 1 🥂 Thank you to @archive_clt @cheryseterry and everyone else for the love in Charlotte — a city so full of talent that even the major outlets are starting to take notice, and one that played such a big role in this debut issue. The first two features in the mag are on @cyanca.mp3 and @madeby_don , both stories shot by @surfmitchell and written by @tbunzey , and it was a beautiful thing to toast all together to this piece of history, and this moment in time. Not to mention @mikejonesnc , @michael_digital_ , @davehaswingz , @boynamedleroy_ , and so many others who define what this project is all about.
