bd 🧜‍♀️ one more year done✔️ last year it was about challenge, harmony, trust yourself (i wrote) I would say copypasted I follow you deep sea baby (с)

Last 2 days to explore Critical Shifts at @barin_han exhibition For me it was a cyclical trip through shifts – from the building itself “5-floor-rabbit-hole” (the pioneering Barin Han in the center of the historical city) to each individual work, which is subtly connected to all the others as a complete patchwork of meanings, while maintaining air and intervals for finding your own unexpected (self)critical shifts Curators: Maria Korolkova, Margarita Osepyan, Kate Umnova Artists: Greta Alfraro, Rong Bao, Kerem Ozan Bayraktar, Burçak Bingöl, Gülizar Sepoglu, Marjolijn Dijkman, Sinem Disli, FRAUD, Jim Hobbs, Merve Iseri, Saodat Ismailova, Ege Kanar, Jiabao Li, Marie-Luce Nadal, Yagiz Ozgen, Julien Prévieux, Sümer Sayin, Pip Thornton, Dimitri Venkov, Emma Waltraud Howes, Cansu Yildiran *Many thanks to @margaritaosepyan and @kate_in_arttravel for the thrilling curatorial tour⚡️ #contemporaryartistanbul #contemporaryartexhibition #CriticalShifts

The main must-see @212photographyistanbul for me is Viviane Sassen at Galata Greek School, a bit unfairly left in the shadows (being a few steps away from that AI-church Saint Benoit). The Amsterdam-based artist, who has exhibited at MoMA, the Venice Biennale, across Europe, and works with big fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, builds her artistic practice on experiments with contrasting colors and bright sun. Inspiration from her childhood memories – Viviane is from Kenya. Her works, especially in the Umbra and Lexicon series, are a completely different Africa, no matter how the viewer imagined it before. The play of light and shadow, of form, of contrasts and colors, of the equal interaction of people and objects – in my opinion, fit very naturally into the space of the school. It looks like a fantasy world of a child who had a hard time waiting until the bell rang and finally broke free. In these moments no one can forbid to dream, to think about the forbidden, about what is difficult to think of and talk about with adults. About death, about fears, about a world where everything is strange and everything is still ahead. ‘The years of magical thinking’ – as Sassen recalls her childhood. It is worth coming here to find yourself somewhere between the ordinary and the extraordinary, and who knows, maybe to remember your childhood dreams? Bonus it’s open 1 week more – until October 28 #vivienesassen #212photographyistanbul #contemporaryphotography #contemporaryartistanbul

The Instagram ‘blockbuster’ of the @212photographyistanbul contest is the show at Saint Benoit Church, which is beyond competition. The oldest Catholic church in Istanbul stood through the French Revolution and survived the great Galata fire, and has been standing the invasion of AI for several years now. Here, as in any similar place, everyone can have their own special (spiritual?) experience. Take pictures of creepy nuns for your socials, or decorate them with AI pearls, crystals and stuff, or even attack those AI-generated images, like “my friend/husband/child can do better in Midjourney”🤪 Or ignoring the offered show, enjoy your own: admire the magical light from the stained glass windows and imagine how much these old walls have seen. Or maybe try to expand the boundaries (as the authors Ahmet Rüstem Ekici and Hakan Sorar suggest) and dig deeper into how religion is being transformed with the advent of artificial intelligence. Will religious institutions take it as an accomplice or will they ‘exorcise AI-devil’? Will they encourage communication with AI avatar of a deceased people not through church(bot), but through a chatbot? Will it be possible to confess to a robot and will an AI priest be able to keep the seal of confession? And finally, will the secularization trend driven by technologies lead to a new religion? These are just some of the questions that caught up with me later on (unexpected,) Therefore, take yourself to church, no matter which reason suits you best 📍 Saint Benoit Church - exhibition IN CIRCULATION - thorough October 13 . . . #212photographyistanbul #saintbenoitfransızlisesi #aiartwork

Berk Güntürk’s first solo exhibition opening at C.A.M Gallery (until June 4) The show “Horror Vacui” aims to explore
existential fears and emotional voids that lie within emptiness. Coming from a Russian-Turkish family, young and talented artist gets inspired by his own cosmopolitan experience, old masters and pop culture, religious subjects and contemporary narratives. It’s an exciting journey in-between present day and art history 🥀 . . . @please_speak_russian #berkgöntürk @camgallery #camgallery #istanbulart #contemporaryart #istanbulcontemporary

. . *Image 1 - Sarkis, Arter Video 5 - Suppose you are not, Arter Video 8 - Cistern Basilica
