Last two days to visit Agnes Warguru’s solo exhibition “It Sounds Like Rain is Coming”. Agnes Waruguru’s practice moves fluidly between painting, drawing, weaving, and installation, drawing on indigenous techniques and materials as active carriers of meaning. It Sounds Like Rain is Coming brings together works that position the body, memory, and the natural world in a continuous exchange where the rhythms of nature become a language for grief, tenderness, and blooming hope.

Last week to visit Agnes Waruguru’s solo exhibition “It Sounds Like Rain is Coming”. You can visit the exhibition until May 16, 19:00 at SANATORIUM.
Agnes Waruguru’nun “Yağmur Yağacak Gibi” adlı kişisel sergisini ziyaret etmek için son hafta. Sergiyi 16 Mayıs saat 19:00’a kadar SANATORIUM’da ziyaret edebilirsiniz.
The two-floor exhibition begins with the textile installation Thahu* (Cleansing), which appears almost like a flood rushing toward the gallery entrance. In It Sounds Like Rain is Coming, rain becomes a binder of memory, movement, and care, a force that nourishes, erases, and stitches the layers of life together.
📸: Zeynep Fırat @zeynepfiratphotos #sanatorium #sanatoriumgallery #art #contemporaryart #agneswaruguru
Merve Şendil’in “Sadece Bir Rüyaydı” başlıklı, Ceren Erdem küratörlüğünde @troyamuzesi ’nde gerçekleşen kişisel sergisi 30 Mayıs’a dek uzatıldı.
Merve Şendil’s solo exhibition titled “It Was Only Just a Dream,” curated by Ceren Erdem at @troyamuzesi , has been extended until May 30th. The Memory of a Walk (2026) presents a black-and-white photograph of a solitary tree. If the clouds suspend the past in the air, this work marks a moment in which drifting history briefly touches the earth. While the image may initially be read as a landscape, it also functions as a form of self-portraiture. Printed at the scale of the artist’s own body, the photograph quietly aligns her presence with that of the tree. The species or morphology of the tree is ultimately unimportant. What matters is the prolonged search that led to its discovery. The image, neither being staged nor digitally manipulated, was found through an extended process of walking, waiting, and looking. In this way, the work transforms these gestures into an artistic method.

You can visit Agnes Waruguru’s solo show “It Sounds Like Rain is Coming” until May 16 at SANATORIUM. Waruguru’s works on paper reveal gentle forms that disperse across the surface, creating spirals and washes of color that flow organically, blending watercolor with various pigments. These forms become tiny carriers of life, almost as if they are interacting with one another, even in their stillness. Agnes Waruguru’nun “Yağmur Yağacak “Gibi başlıklı kişisel sergisi 16 Mayıs’a kadar SANATORIUM’da ziyaret edebilirsiniz. Waruguru’nun kâğıt üzerine çalışmaları, yüzey boyunca yayılan nazik formları ortaya çıkarır; sulu boya ile farklı pigmentleri harmanlayarak, spiraller ve organik şekilde yayılan renk yıkamaları oluşturur. Bu formlar, adeta birbirleriyle etkileşime girerek, hareketsizlikleri içinde küçük yaşam taşıyıcıları hâline gelirler. 📸: Zeynep Fırat @zeynepfiratphotos #sanatorium #sanatoriumgallery #art #contemporaryart #agneswaruguru

Installation views of Erol Eskici’s exhibition “Fields of Encounter”
The paintings of Erol Eskici move between figuration and atmospheric displacement—a conceptual space that reconsiders questions of reality and appearance.
For Plato, the distinction between appearance and truth is fundamental: what we see with our eyes is only the visible world, and this world is not the true reality. Behind it lies something eternal and perfect, which Plato calls the Ideas. These Ideas are not physical things and can only be grasped through thought. Truth, for Plato, is therefore never found in what is seen, but in something invisible that lies behind the world of appearances.
Magical realism in painting subtly shifts this order. In the tradition of the Neue Sachlichkeit or in the works of artists such as Frida Kahlo and Giorgio de Chirico, we encounter visual worlds that remain realistic on the surface while simultaneously producing a subtle sense of disturbance. In this atmospheric density, we seem to remember a realm behind the world. The depicted world is rendered with a precision that creates an uncanny effect, as if reality is slightly displaced, condensed, or removed from ordinary time. The “magical” element here is not a break with reality, but a deepening of its appearance.
Here Eskici’s painting can also be situated. His works preserve the recognizability of figures, spaces, and objects, while resisting a purely narrative or documentary reading. The forms appear structured according to internal laws, almost musical in their rhythm and proportion, yet this sense of order simultaneously unsettles physical logic itself, which appears subtly suspended. The world remains visible, yet never exhausted by what it shows.
From this perspective, Plato and magical realism converge indirectly around a shared question that Eskici’s painting continues to explore: where does the truth of the visible reside—outside the world, behind it? Or within its quiet, irreducible presence itself?
The exhibition “Fields of Encounter” with paintings by Erol Eskici is on view through May 30 at GOLESTANI Gallery in Düsseldorf, in collaboration with SANATORIUM, Istanbul.

Çağla Köseoğulları’s solo show “Seeping Into the Horizon” is open @fiermangallery New York until May 8. In “Seeping Into the Horizon”, an installation of black-and-white works showcases the artist’s exploration of landscape. Inspired by the experience of observing scenery from a moving train, Köseoğulları engages her eyes, hands, and instincts almost like a camera, capturing the fleeting impressions of rapidly passing views. The works reflect the traces and marks that landscapes imprint on the mind as they disappear from view, revealing a perception of time that slips away within the rhythm of everyday routines.
