DO(Nation) Campaign 🤎 An Online Donation Drive Our actions, minuscule and big, has more of an impact on our community than we think. It is therefore essential that we remind everyone engaging with Sun Raise to contribute in whichever way you can. We pondered on commemorating June 16 1976. But we had to consider our country’s priorities are today, in June 2025. Our government is far from fulfilling the commitments made to young people and our advancements. The unfortunate reality is that the youth has been placed somewhere at the bottom of the priority list. But defeated we will not be nor remain! We want to take this opportunity with our DO(nation) campaign to encourage a nation that speaks less and does more. Your actions matter! 🌟Let’s help Gugulethu graduate!!🌟 As part of our ongoing campaign, we’d like to introduce our theme “Do(nation)”. We want to encourage everyone by letting you know that your contribution, your participation whether small or big matters. Let’s be part of a nation that actions together. Gugulethu is the second applicant we’re campaigning for. Keep your eyes on our website for updates. After completing her LLB at UCT, Gugulethu was awarded R100 000 by Dell Young Leaders in March 2025. She applied to Sun Raise with hopes to cover the remaining R29 834,50 so that she can graduate. The deadline is drawing nearer and in response, Gugulethu has taken out a credit card loan and managed to pay R20 200. Her remaining balance to be paid by 30 June 2025 is R9 443. Gugulethu is a dedicated student and a talented poet. Her dream is for her family to see their first graduate; their first lawyer. She has struggled tirelessly to complete her degree and, in the last stretch, is relying on us-her beloved community- to help her take this final step! For now we are prioritising raising the R9 443, so that Gugulethu can graduate. But the generosity does not need to stop there. Taking out a loan in your early 20s is scary! Feel free to assist with the total sum, so this loan does not set her back as much as it definitely could. ⭐️Together we can DO more!⭐️ When making a payment to our bank account- use the reference “30 June”, or alternatively donate directly into Gugulethu’s fee account and send the proof of your payment to us via email/DM. Just as Spring signals new beginnings that can be felt in the air, the rising of the sun brings the hope of a new day. It is precisely that hope and opportunity that Andrea Davids (@introducing_anni ) and Lois Flandorp (@loisloisloislois_ ) aimed to channel when they founded Sun Raise – the grassroots organisation that aims to support financially dis-empowered students, through community and creativity. Through community Sun Raise has directed the warmth in the sky to shine down onto David Arries, allowing him the honour of graduating in September of this year - through presence, people and community. We are happy to share that a milestone has been reached! Because you cared, one of the Sun Raise applicants will be graduating this year 💛 We reflect on how this all started because Andrea from @nnsc_____ saw a fellow creative, @loisflandorp in need of funding and together they decided to birth, Sun Raise. A movement, something much greater than our capabilities as individuals. So we invited our different communities and reached out to businesses in the CBD of Cape Town to join us. Through, the two activations we hosted and private donations, we raised just over R11K. Showing that buying a ticket, sharing the website link, telling someone about Sun Raise does go a long way and makes a big difference. In community we can shift narratives, break through limitations placed on us and encourage the power of togetherness. Again, much appreciation to everyone who cared. We’re reflecting on Move With Intent curated by @nnsc_____ which took place last month at @one_park_cpt As this year marks ten years since #rhodesmustfall where a brave then student Chumani Maxwele responded to the lack of change in our universities and country , we remember that we still have such a long way to go before we can put this social ill to rest. We will share what we’ve learned from our first and second activations shortly. More importantly, we will share the milestones we’ve been able to accomplish with the help of YOU, the community. Leading up to our next activation at @one_park_cpt tomorrow evening, we’re reflecting on some of the moments we had at our last activation. "10 years later, students are going through the same thing. We can't just wait for them to get tired and go home. We need to help them, now." First, Sun Raise (@sunraise_cpt ) activated the city at The Bree Street Experiment. The community came together to support students unable to continue their studies due to financial exclusion. Now, Sun Raise hopes to bring us together again this Sunday at One Park. The goal remains the same - be there, spread awareness and support all those students chasing a future, those who feel unseen.
