Brown Sugar: 30th Anniversary featuring Soulquarian Silver Jubilee Soul & Food We are honoured to host an experience centred around an album and an artist who inspired a culture of romance 🤎 30 years ago, in Battery Studios D’Angelo created a masterpiece. This was he’s debut studio album which he led - from instrumentation to songwriting. What was initially just going to be a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the album has now evolved into a celebration of he’s legacy. We are joined by no other than the @soulquarian_sj .They are a Cape Town based project which honours the twenty five year legacy of this groundbreaking collective; Soulquarians, who managed to usher the world towards a distinct direction in contemporary Black music from the turn of the millennium. Brown Sugar (the event) was birthed by us and is an expression of femininity(our soft side) via the Neo-Soul and RnB genres and a celebration of black and brown skin. Together, we merge to bring you an evening celebrating life, good music, great wine and soulful food. The evening will consist of a full performance of Brown Sugar the album by D’Angelo by the Soulquarian Silver Jubilee. This time around we gather at @novel_wine_bar in Woodstock. @salu_salo_ return to ensure that your stomachs are as warm as your hearts. @khayelitshasfinestwines will also be present offering a free glass of wine with your meal. We are excited to bring The Poetry Jam for the first time to @kundavalley this weekend 🎙 ​We'll be presenting an intuitive afternoon where words breathe life to music. This is an improv-based session featuring acclaimed poets @itspagedina and Zizipho Bam. Together with the festival band, we aim to create, compose, and conjure an experience completely unique to Sunday. The mic will be open for those who feel called to the stage. We’re doing things a little different tonight as we will chat about the album “Amongst The Pigeons” before immersing ourselves in a performance by Jarry Pitboi and Permi Kwaali. We have the privilege of curating and hosting not only two of our dearest friends, but also two of the most passionate and creative artists in the scene, @jarrypitboi47 and @permikwaali . With the recent announcement of their upcoming collaborative album “Amongst the Pigeons”, we have the honour of welcoming you all in for a beautiful evening to experience this album firsthand together the night of the release. Entirely produced by the masterful composer and beat maker that is @permikwaali with beautifully introspective and honest bars from one of the undergrounds sharpest penman, @jarrypitboi47 This album highlights their unique gifts and perspectives, gifting us a sonic landscape with lyricism and honest storytelling. We as the TLE team have had the privilege of experiencing the project earlier and we urge you to, JUST LISTEN! The Listening Experience Vol. 8 featuring 3-SIX If you’ve attended a volume of The Listening Experience or attended any North event this year, you would’ve gotten to know our beloved brother and fellow creative, @threesixcpt . It’s an honour to curate an evening celebrating the upcoming release of “beats of mind Vol. 1”. A tape produced and intentionally sequenced by @threesixcpt giving us, the listener a glimpse into his mind. When asked what genre the tape would be categorised as, he said “Hip Hop”. We tend to limit artists when we categorise them. But 3-Six mentioned that he found great freedom in this genre as it allowed him to explore Boom Bap, Lo-Fi, Jazz, Soul and take inspiration from more upbeat sounds such as Dancehall and House. We invite you to join us this Thursday, at @one_park_cpt . As always, come and immerse yourself in the music in whichever way feels most comfortable.
