So grateful to @aural_canyon for the support and cannot wait to share these pieces with you 🩵 • Germinations, the debut album from Colorado musician Sun Swept, is pastoral, heady music that travels through layers of sparkling ethereal flutes and beds of droning synths. Different textures from spacious reverb to granular flecks are extracted from the flute through electronic processing. Each composition is based on a loose structure for improvisation and is different each time when performed live. Recordings were all captured at home. The music on Germinations is serene but with an experimental and even noisy edge at times. Some pieces are joyful and lively and others are slow and contemplative. The album is inspired by the Rocky Mountains, alpine lakes, clouds, wind, breath, and classic new age flute tapes. what a time!!! @denverspoutfest this weekend was a great success with so many beautiful improvised musical offerings! night 1 was a special spout fest edition of emergent forms, featuring 4 combos that were playing together for the very first time! thank you so much @federjanet @joshuatrinidad @_ryanocerous @james.cellohoskins @guaiyao @post_silence @bret9292 @dancemomethan @bosch.hayden & luke christensen! much magic was made - it was a really special night. day 2 we had a beautiful day at martinez park in west denver and enjoyed a wide variety of improvised music from: pecker @wub.json and @dancemomethan little bluestem ensemble (no videos because i was playing!) with @5stringwhale @aron_dool @filpanosmusicalsaw @goldenbrown.music bill mccrossen and mark miller gang violence quartet @david_____castillo @emmanuelbmnoise @y.u.nha and peina @the_land_ethic.wav @aadenrrswy & @rareflightofficial thank you so much to everyone who came and donated and shared in this experience with us!! & i am so grateful to all the musicians who played! it was really fun working woth @wub.json & @dancemomethan cooking this up and really stoked to do it again next year

Another highlight for our Saturday group show! Little Bluestem Ensemble ✨ Little Bluestem Ensemble is a 5-piece group formed specifically for Spout Fest, though several members performed together during an Emergent Forms show in 2025 where they improvised on the spot. Expect a fusion of ambient, psych, and Americana!  Barry Osborne (@5stringwhale ) is a Denver-based 5-string banjo player and songwriter who performs solo, with indie folk band Distance Walk, and all points in-between. Depending on the setting, folks have likened his sound to a diy John Hartford, scratchy 78 records, or “cigarettes in autumn.” Golden Brown (@goldenbrown.music ) is the instrumental music of Stefan Beck. Played on acoustic and electric guitars, other stringed instruments, and keyboards. Drawing from a wide range of inspirations, Beck’s music sits at the intersection of psychedelic folk, ambient, cosmic Americana, and new age. Beck is also part of the instrumental psychedelic trio Prairiewolf (@prairiewolfprairiewolf ). Philip Panos (@filpanosmusicalsaw ) uses the musical saw to create abstract soundscapes and improvisations, perform folk tunes, classical music and more. He is based out of Denver CO and is also active in the band Field Theory (@field_._theory ). Sun Swept (@sun_swept_ ) is Sarah Christiansen of Denver, Colorado. Sarah works with flutes and electronics to create pastoral cosmic ambient music. Sarah is also an improviser who plays with several different ensembles including Field Theory and Snowswept  and other projects of varying permanence. Sarah is passionate about organizing music events and helps put on the Open Field Jam at DMV, Emergent Forms AND is one of the organizers of Spout Fest! Aaron Dooley @Aron_dool - Born to think. Cursed to feel. For 20 years, Aaron Dooley has been making music for the sake of human connection. May his bass lines rumble away the pain.

The third edition of the improvised music series, Emergent Forms, is coming up soon! As always, I am extremely stoked for this lineup and can’t wait to see what we come up with. Doors at 7 and music will start at 7:30 sharp. There will be 5 sets total - 4 smaller ensembles and one big group jam. With this group of musicians, I am anticipating cosmic/heady/ambient/folk vibes and maybe a bit more tonal than previous editions but rest assured we will be keeping it weird. See you all November 6 at DMV - 2424 E 43rd. DMV is near Josephine and 43rd in the graffiti’d building.

Big news!! @sun_swept_ and I are hosting a free improv jam here in Denver once a month at @denver.music.venue Open Field is a jam for all skill levels that randomly places people in combos of varying size. Expect to play in at least one combo. Any and all instruments welcome! Arrive early for warmup and combo placement! Doors at 7!
