ARACHNE: perhaps the largest steel-cable Long Strings Instrument, stretching over 160 feet, accompanied by sound machines forged from 3000 lbs. of shipyard scrap. This isn’t just music. This summer, @robotrickshaw and @subsuperior collaborated with students at Duluth Denfeld High School as part of the DASH program coordinated by @anne.m.parish in a hands-on research group investigating water-based music making. Earlier this month, a concept generated by Jayla resulted in the prototyping of a hydro-acoustic drum sequencer! Greetings all! Apologies for going radio silent, but things have transpired. @theembassylovesyou is being evicted from our space at the warehouse as a result of SubSuperior activities. Despite this misunderstanding we bear no ill will toward our landlords (who have taken us in and provided a wonderful space in which experimental arts and artists have incubated). We acknowledge that in our capacities as functionally unreasonable artists we are occasionally compelled to operate in a space of asking forgiveness rather than permission, and that people have differing definitions of “secret cult meetings” (which were explicitly allowed under our rental agreement). We have been instructed to remove HEXAS and not to operate it from our slip. We regret that this has shortened our festival on such a perfect Duluth day, and we thank you all for your love, enthusiasm, and beautiful contributions. We’ll be working on what to do with HEXAS from here, and WE NEED A NEW SPACE. Who’s got a warehouse or other suitable space for us? Must we really take to the high seas to make spaces for art? This is part of a very tragic and troubling pattern of artist displacement in our fair city.
